I frowned. “What?” Of all the things, I didn't expect our declaration of love to make her laugh.

“It’s so us,” she said in between giggles, wiping at her tears of laughter. “Nothing we do is normal… Same goes for our declaration of love.”

I smiled at that. She did have a point. Our first sexual encounter had me attached to the bed. “You have a point… Let me make it better.Te amo, India McKenna.”

“I love you too, Domenico Romano.”

We made it to the small town before the cabin just as the sun started to set.

“We just need to pick up the food I ordered for us. Five minutes and we’ll be on our way.”

She frowned as we parked in front of a dimly lit convenience store. “It looks closed.” She quickly looked around. “Actually, everything looks closed.”

“It’s a small town, and it’s past six. Yes, everything is closed, but don’t worry. I have contacts.” I winked at her playfully. “I’ll be right back.”

She laughed. “I’ll be waiting.”

I hurried to the convenience store and knocked once. The older lady behind the counter came to open the door with a scowl on her face.

“You’re late,” she barked as soon as she unlocked the door.

“Sure am, ma’am. I’m sorry.” That old bat had never been scared of our family and I respected her for that.

“Your food is here. It will be one hundred dollars for the food and fifty dollars for making me wait.”

I laughed, reaching for the money in my wallet. Nothing could annoy me today. “You know what? Here is two hundred dollars, for the wait.”

The old woman's face softened. “I appreciate it. Enjoy your weekend.”

“I well intend to,” I replied, making sure the whipping cream was in the bag. I was planning to use it on India tonight.

I exited the store with both bags in my hands and walked the few steps down the street just in time to see India get out of the car, her eyes wide.

“Dom!” she shouted just as I felt a sharp pain in my side.

I looked to my right side and saw a knife stabbed in my side. I looked up again, meeting blue eyes and a face I didn’t know.

“For Emily,” he growled before stabbing me again and again until everything went black.

INDIA

I decided to check my phone when Dom entered the store, and my heart stopped when I saw six missed calls from Luca. The man had never called me before.

I pressed call with shaky hands and he answered on the first ring.

“India, thank God. Where are you?” he let out on a huff.

“We’re in a small town. Dom went to pick up some food for the weekend and—”

I heard a string of quick Italian coming from someone else.

Luca replied quickly to the other person before talking to me again. “India, listen. When he comes back, tell him to turn the car around. We’re on our way.”

“Luca, why? Oh, he’s coming out now. Talk to him.”

I opened my door to exit the car just as a blond man appeared by Dom’s side.
