Her smile widened. “I’ll take it.”

“Dessert?” the waitress asked once we were done with our meal.

I looked at India. “If you want a dessert, you should try the tiramisu. It's amazing.”

She shook her head. “No, I think I'm ready to go home.”

“Oh, okay.” I tried to hide my disappointment at her wish to finish our evening early. Did I misinterpret the signs? I was not an expert. Truth be told, it was actually my first date ever but still, I was certain it was going well.

I nodded once more, reaching for my wallet inside my jacket.

The waitress shook her head. “No, Mr. Romano. Your money is not good here. You have a great evening.”

After she left the table, I still reached for my wallet and got out two twenties for the waitress.

“Dom, I had a great time,” India said gently.

I nodded again, not sure what to reply. The fact that she was trying to spare my feelings made it somehow worse.

“I’m just ready for us to go home and continue what we started last night.”

I looked up quickly, meeting her eyes with incredulity.

She laughed at my sudden interest. “Why did you think I wanted to leave?” She gave me a seductive smile that went straight to my cock. “I want dessert, but what I want is not on the menu.”

I growled, looking heavenward. “You’re killing me, woman. I’m now going to walk out with a tent in my pants.”

She giggled. “And I’m okay with that.”

I stood up quickly and reached for her hand to help her up.

“We need to move now, Dolcetta, or my hard-on will poke someone in the wrong place.”

She laughed again and took my hand. “We wouldn’t want that, would we?”

Fuck, I was addicted to her melodic laugh. I wanted to hear it every day… Well, that and her moans of pleasure, and I wanted to be the one creating all of these sounds. Maybe because her laugh, giving her pleasure, made me feel like I was invincible.

We exited the restaurant and my phone vibrated in my pocket as we were waiting for the car to be pulled around.

I opened the text without even looking at the sender. ‘How does she feel about having dinner facing a rapist? Does she know the extent of your sins? Have you confessed your crimes?’

I tightened my hold around my phone as I looked around, ready to murder anyone holding a phone in my vicinity.

“Dom?”

I looked down at her, my scowl still firmly in place.

Her eyes widened with worry, and I tried my best to smooth my features; she didn’t deserve it.

She looked down at my hand holding the phone. “Is everything okay?”

That was what that coward wanted, to ruin my perfect evening with this amazing woman. He wouldn’t have texted just now if it was not the case. I wouldn’t give him satisfaction. I deserve some happiness too, and if this woman was kind enough to see past all the darkness in me and my life, then I would not let him take that away from me.

“Yes, sorry. Something at work that annoyed me.”

“Oh, okay.” She bit her plump bottom lip. “You can go if you want. I understand completely.”

I shook my head and grabbed her hand as the valet parked the car in front of us.
