Her shoulders sagged with relief. You too. She mouthed back and just like that, we were okay.

I toweled myself dry after my quick shower and walked into the bedroom with the towel around my waist, and the lusty glint that appeared in her eyes made me feel like a superhero. I still couldn’t believe I deserved her.

“Zip me up?” she asked, turning toward the mirror.

I came to stand behind her and brushed my knuckles over her spine, making her shiver.

“Your skin is so soft,” I whispered before leaning down to kiss the back of her neck. I loved when she wore her hair up; her neck was so beautiful and delicate.

She sucked in a breath as I brushed my lips up and down the column of her neck. I peeked in the mirror and noticed her nipples were erect with desire.

“Tonight,” I promised—or warned—as I zipped her up. “You look stunning,” I told her as I studied her little black and silver cocktail dress she was wearing with the necklace I had given her. She never took it off and that made me happier than it should.

She swirled around and rested her little hand on my scarred cheek. “You always say that,” she teased with a smile.

I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her. “Because it’s always true.”

She rolled her eyes. “Even when I just woke up in my oversized pajamas? Because you say it then too.”

“Especially when you wake up in these oversized pajamas! It means I get to take them off and eat that sweet little pussy of mine.”

She let out a startled laugh as she blushed. It was now a favorite game of mine. How many times a day could I make my woman blush.

“Yourpussy?”

I scoffed. “Of course! I’m not sharing or giving it back. It’s mine.”

She caressed my cheek and I could see all her love right there, in her stunning green eyes. I would die for you, I wanted to pledge.

“Yes, it’s yours,” she confirmed before getting out of my hold. “Now get ready, Mr. Montanari; we’re already running late.”

When she sat in the car to go to Carter’s house just outside of the city, I grabbed her hand.

“I know you lied to me,” I said as gently as I could to show her I was not actually angry.

She tensed, throwing me a side-look.

“Dom told me the truth, about the investigation you two were doing. Just the thought of you being in danger.” I shook my head.

“I— Don’t be mad at Dom; it was my idea to get involved!”

Of course, leave it to her to defend him.

I sighed. “Maybe so but he knows how dangerous our world is. He should have known better.”

“I wanted to help you.”

I brought her hand to my lips and kissed it. “And you did but now please stay out of it. I need you to be safe and sound, okay? I can’t look into it and worry about you at the same time.”

“Okay,” she said in defeat.

“I’m going to see Matteo tomorrow after the appointment with the lawyer and I will tell you everything.”

“You promise?”

“I swear it.”

She smiled, sliding closer to me and resting her head on my shoulder. “I'm glad I don't have to keep the secret anymore. I hate keeping something from you.”
