“A couple of days,” he replied quite reluctantly.

It explained his silence but at the same time, it made me so angry to know he’d let his state get so bad.

“We need a doctor; call one now!” I ordered.

“No doctor…” Luca whispered.

Dom walked closer. “He doesn't want a doctor, for many reasons, and we can’t negotiate on that. Call a doctor now and the whole family will know he is weak. This will cause more problems than you can imagine.”

I knew that when he said family he meant Mafia. “Stupid Mafia,” I grumbled.

Dom gave me a mirthless smile. “You have no idea. Can- Can you do something?”

My heart started to pump faster in my chest. I was only a student nurse, I was not all-knowing but what other choice did I have? I had to save him.

“I can try.” I shook my head. “Can anyone get me meds? A thermometer? Anything at all?”

“I can get anything you want.”

“Even meds on prescription?” I asked doubtfully. “You know I'm not allowed to presc—”

“Anything, Cassie. Just tell me.”

“Okay, take notes.” I pointed at the notepad and pen on Luca’s night table. “A thermometer, a stethoscope, co-amoxiclav for IV, paracetamol, aspirin, some 0.45%, and some 0.9% sodium chloride and a drip of some sorts, an oximeter, oxygen…just in case. Just that for now and come back as soon as you’ve given the list to someone, okay?”

He rushed out and I could concentrate on Luca again.

I tried to sit him up a little on the pillows but he was dead weight and much too heavy. “Why are you so stubborn? You need a doctor. I’m just a nurse.”

Dom came back breathlessly. “Luciano’s going. I said it was for you, that you were sick. He’ll be back in thirty.”

I waved my hand dismissively. “We need to get the fever down immediately.”

“Okay, what do you need?”

“I need to put him in a cold bath; he will hate it but it's the only way…” I looked at his face, his pale skin, his labored breath. “To be fair he is so out of it, I doubt he’ll even realize. Can you carry him to the bathroom?”

He nodded, pushing up his sleeves before taking off his holster and putting it at the end of the bed. “Just get started on the bath.” He pointed at the bathroom. “We’ll be right over.”

I rushed into the enormous white marble bathroom and started to fill the jacuzzi size bathtub he had in a corner of the room.

“You know, I think Mrs. Broussard's entire apartment could fit in this bathroom,” I said as Dom dragged a barely conscious Luca into the bathroom.

“Fuck,” Dom growled, adjusting his hold around Luca’s waist. “He’s heavier than he looks.”

I rolled my eyes. “The guy is six two. What did you expect?”

“I’m six four,” Dom replied with a wink.

“Congratulations, you win.” I cleared my throat. “I…um… I need to get him out of his soaked pajamas.”

“Okay.” He pulled Luca’s arm tighter around his neck. “I got him.”

I took a deep breath, crouching down. He’s just a patient, Cassie. You’ve done this a hundred times; it’s nothing more. Except that I didn’t have feelings for my patients. I didn’t kiss my patients. I didn’t get my stomach in knots when I thought of them.

I pulled his pants down, doing my best to avoid looking at his cock, which proved to be impossible, and even soft it was big.

I stood up quickly, hoping my cheeks were not as red as I thought they were. “Help me get him into the water.”
