“Vaffanculo.” I closed the red velvety box and looked toward our bedroom. “Carter will be here any minute; let him in please. I just need to have a word with my fiancée.”
I went into the bedroom and once the shower stopped running, I waited until the door clicked open and I went down on one knee, the ring box open in front of me.
She stepped out, her wet hair in a tight bun, dressed in black leggings and a red flannel shirt.
Her eyes went wide at the position. “Luca?”
I smiled at her. “I know you already accepted but I wanted to make this right. “Cassandra West, I’m asking again. Marry me today?”
She laughed and rushed toward me. “Of course.”
I stood up and placed the ring on her finger.
“A rose? Luca, it is so beautiful.”
“I had it made especially for us.” I ran my thumb on the black diamonds. “My eyes.” Then the emeralds, “Your eyes.” And finally the red diamond. “My eternal love for you…all born in a garden.”
She grabbed my face and pulled me down to kiss me deeply. I was not one to relinquish dominance, but for her, I would.
Once we broke the kiss, both breathless, she grabbed my hand, intertwined our fingers, and walked into the living room.
“I’m getting married!” She beamed to Dom, showing him her ring.
“Nice! Who’s the lucky bastard?”
“Asshole!” I muttered as Cassie rolled her eyes.
She let go of my hand and walked to him, pulling him into a hug.
“I have something to ask you actually. Would you give me away and be my witness? Except for Luca and Jude, you’re the person who matters most to me and it would mean the world to me.”
Dom looked away, his eyes carrying the glint of unshed tears. “I’m not crying, you’re crying.”
“I never said you were crying,” Cassie replied gently.
Dom sniffled. “Shut up.”
It was the moment Carter and Nazalie showed up.
Nazalie pulled Cassie into a hug. “I’m so happy for you.” She turned to me. “I told you that you would one day get that happiness too.”
I nodded, I remember that. She’d told me that on her wedding day. “And I said I had not done anything to deserve it.”
“This is a thing with love, Luca; it’s not always something you deserve. It’s a gift. You just need to be brave enough to seize it.” Carter pulled Nazalie close to him and kissed the top of her head.
“Not that I want to be a pain, but I need to steal the future bride away if we want to be on time at City Hall.”
“I’m coming with,” Dom piped in. “I’m the maid of honor.”
I threw him a grateful look, knowing that it would bring me peace of mind to have him with Cassie.
“I’ll see you soon, Mr. Montanari.” Cassie smiled at me before pecking my lips with a chaste kiss.
I watched her go, trying to smother the wave of anxiety at seeing her leave my sight.
“What happened?” Carter asked as soon as we were alone.
I turned toward him. “What do you mean?”
