Carter was silent for a few seconds. “And you needed to say that now? Congratulations.”
“I’m getting married today.”
“Oh.” Carter chuckled. “Worried she’ll change her mind? I can’t blame you.”
I rolled my eyes. Why was I surrounded by assholes?Because you’re an asshole, the little taunting voice replied.
Carter sighed. “What do you need?”
“You as my witness, your wife to help mine, and access to King’s Mall.”
“One sec—” The line went quiet as he put himself on mute. “Nazalie said yes.”
I would have teased him endlessly about that before but now I knew better because what Cassie said went.
“Perfect. When can you be here?”
“Couple of hours?”
“See you then.”
I ordered breakfast for Cassie and rolled it into the room. I opened the curtain halfway and looked at her in the bed, my heart squeezing almost painfully in my chest. Would this feeling ever go away? Would I one day be used to having her? I doubted it.
I sat carefully beside her and brushed my lips on her cheekbone, trailing down her cheek to her neck.
She sighed with content. “Be careful, Mr. Montanari. I might request this type of wake-up call every morning.”
I chuckled against her neck. “What my queen wants, my queen gets.” I moved from my spot on her neck and met her green eyes still full of sleep. “I brought you breakfast.” I smiled. “The future bride needs to eat and get ready because her bridal team will be here shortly.”
She blinked at me silently and suddenly I was frozen with fear. Did she forget about yesterday? Had the drugs played tricks on her? And the more frightening thought of all, did she change her mind?
“Cassie?” Lord, did my voice sound as scared as I thought it did?
“I thought it was just a quick wedding. You don’t need to go to any hassle; all that matters is that I’m marrying you.”
I let out a relieved chuckle. “Tesora, it’s as much for me as it is for you. It’s the only one we’ll ever have—humor me.”
She shook her head with a little cheeky smile on her face. “I love you, my sweet beast.”
I pecked her lips. “Sweet only for you, bellissima.”
I took a quick shower as she ate her breakfast and I went back to the living room to give her some privacy. The excitement of the day was starting to really get to me.
Dom was the first to come back.
“Matteo was a conceited ass about the wedding. He said to tell you ‘another plot twist he never saw coming’ but he’ll be there at one with Romero.”
I nodded. “Being an ass is Matteo’s default mode.”
Dom cocked his head to the side. “I thought it was a psycho killer.”
I nodded “That too.” I took the engagement ring from him and looked at it. It was just as beautiful as I had imagined. The ring was made of platinum, set with round black diamonds, emeralds for the stem, and a round, red diamond center stone for the rose.
“Is it a—”
“Red rose, yes,” I confirmed. “A reminder of our garden.”
“Look who’s romantic.”
