Page 70 of Getting Wrapped Up

Kate frowned when he said that his talents included foot massages.

He was, in fact, quite good at those. And no one else in this room had better find that out.

She rolled her eyes when he said that he spent his time doing charity and home improvements projects.

The charity projects were because he had too much money and enough conscience to know that he had some sinning to make up for. The home improvements projects were because he had too much money and had bought an old farmhouse on a whim.

Plus, hiring people to do the work didn’t count asdoinghome improvement projects.

She laughed out loud when he said he loved dogs and horses.

She knew he liked theideaof dogs, but living in penthouse suites and spending time jetting around the world didn’t lend itself well to owning a pet. Levi had never had a pet, not even as a kid.

She signaled the bartender for a drink when he said he loved getting his hands dirty.

She wasn’t the only one in the room who heard the suggestive tone in his voice. The man ran casinos. His hands didn’t get dirty from mud and grease.

Sure, he’d learned how to light his fireplace, or so he’d told her anyway, but that didn’t mean he was actually familiar with any kind of manual work.

“Oh my God, he’s so cute.”

Two women, at least five years younger and one jean size smaller than Kate, sat on the two bar stools next to her at the bar.

“He might have been a city boy a few weeks ago but he’s making those blue jeans look fine,” the brunette said.

The blonde nodded. “Everyone in here knows he doesn’t know crap about farm work, but Michelle said she saw him loading stuff in the back of his truck the other day and she said there is definite potential there.”

The brunette laughed. “I don’t need his muscles to load up his truck. All he needs to be able to haul ismeup the stairs to the bedroom.”

Seriously? Kate looked from the girl to the stage and back. The bid amount had just passed three hundred dollars.

Didn’t these people know he had a girlfriend?

Of course, he had climbed onto that stage all by himself. He wasn’t tied up and she didn’t see anyone holding a gun on him. They probably figured he was newly single or that they weren’t dating exclusively. Or maybe they didn’t know about her at all.

Andwerethey dating exclusively?

She was. And it wasn’t as if he’d spent many weekends in Sapphire Falls. She knew that for a fact. But she also knew there wasn’t much to do in Sapphire Falls. Maybe weekday dates and hookups were how people passed the cold winter nights in small-town Nebraska.

It wasn’t as though there was a theater scene or clubs or even a twenty-four-hour workout place to spend time.

“I just think it’s adorable how he’s trying to fit in though,” the blonde said. “Everyone knows he’s from Vegas, but he’s having breakfast with the old guys at the diner every morning, asking them all kinds of questions, and he’s been out at Tucker Bennett’s place helping with the track.”

The brunette nodded. “I heard he helped Travis deliver twin calves the other day.”

“I know! Can you imagine?”

Kate couldn’t. She’d met Travis Bennett on her visit to Sapphire Falls at Christmas. She could totally imagine him delivering a calf.

But Levi?

Wait, why would Leviwant todeliver a calf? Why would he even be around a pregnant cow in the first place?

She sat up straighter. Had he bought a cow? More than one? Levi had done things just as crazy—moving to Sapphire Falls after a car accident, falling in love with her in four days, buying a house. Maybe even more importantly—could she live somewhere that cows also lived? A dog was one thing…but actual livestock?

But that would mean he really was planning to stay awhile.

That was what she wanted. She wanted him to be settled, committed, tied down. So she could be too.
