“Pretty far,” he assured her. “Very far.”
Well, that was good.
“Want a drink?” Tucker asked, gesturing toward the bar.
He must have read her jumbled emotions on her face. She nodded.
He took her hand, but it didn’t feel flirtatious this time. Suddenly she had a feeling that Tucker was concerned. That was nice. She really did think they could be friends.
He ordered a beer for himself and she asked for a white wine. He handed her the glass and waited until she’d taken a drink.
“Okay, I lost you out there on the dance floor,” he said. “Everything okay?”
She took a deep breath and looked from the golden liquid in her glass to his face. “I was planning to tell Levi that I’m moving here to Sapphire Falls tonight.”
Tucker didn’t cover his obvious surprise fast enough.
“You think that’s crazy, right?” she asked.
Tucker shook his head. “Not at all.”
She gave him a disbelieving look. “Really? Eight weeks? Eight weeks from first meeting to uprooting my entire life to move to a town I’ve only been to twice?”
She felt her heart rate kicking up and put a hand on her chest.
Tucker was watching her closely. “Trust me, I’ll be happy to jump in here with some mouth-to-mouth, but maybe you need to try taking a deep breath on your own.”
She nodded and did that—breathed deep and long. Three times.
“So,” Tucker said carefully, watching her as if he was ready to call for help if needed. “You’re moving to Sapphire Falls?”
“Do you believe in love at first sight?” she asked. “Falling fast? Just knowing when someone isthe one?”
He seemed to be pondering that. “I don’t know,” he finally said honestly. “I’ve never been in love.”
“No?” That surprised her. Tucker seemed…like the type to have fallen in love. A few times.
He shook his head. “Never been that lucky. Yet.”
“I thought you were the one all about home and marriage and family,” she said.
Tucker took a drink of beer and swallowed. He nodded. “I am. I want all of that.”
“That seems like a romantic notion,” she said. “How have younotfallen in love by now?”
He gave her a half grin. “High standards.”
She laughed. “Right. And the cobbler.”
“But you’ve got that with Levi,” he said. “Lucky guy.”
She shrugged. “Maybe. But now I’m not sure.”
“Oh he is, Kate,” Tucker said. “Having an amazing woman fall for you, want to make alifewith you, that’s no small thing. He must be doing something right.”
That made her heart clench. “Yeah, well…”
“Uh oh,” Tucker said. “You’re having second thoughts?”
