He looked down at her. “You’re also so turned on you can barely breathe?”
She laughed and hugged. “Yes. Always when I’m with you.” But she was about to start chewing on her own arm.
His arm tightened around her. “Me too.”
She looked up. There was that heat in his eyes. That heat that was always enough to turn everything in her body molten.
And her stomach growled again. She was quick to cover the sound. “Sledding was fun.”
“It was. Too bad it has to happen in snow.”
She laughed. “Yeah, kind of a requirement.”
“Unfortunately.”
They stopped by the truck and she faced him with a frown. “You didn’t have fun?”
“I did.” He crowded in close to her. “But seeing you having so much fun, laughing, your cheeks pink, completely letting go, made me want to strip you down and make love to you right then and there.”
Damn. Kate wondered if this would ever let up. Or would she spend the next eighty years going from laughing to burning up because of just a few words from this man?
Maybe food could wait.
“But I didn’t want your pretty parts to get cold,” he said with a half grin.
She returned the smile but her mind went back to the guys at the diner who’d first talked about her pretty parts getting cold, and remembering the guys made her think about the diner, which brought up the memory of the worst oatmeal she’d ever barely eaten in her life.
And her stomach growled again.
To cover it this time, she grabbed Levi by the front of the coat and yanked him in for a kiss.
As usual, the kiss heated quickly and Kate found herself again frustrated by not being able to get closer to Levi’s hard body.
“Let’s get someplace where frostbite isn’t a risk,” she said against his mouth.
Someplace inside. Where there might also be a box of crackers.
“Agreed.” He took her hand and they started down the trail toward the house. Quickly.
They ran most of the way back to the house and were breathing hard and laughing when they threw the sleds back into Joe’s shed.
“Let’s go.” Levi started toward his truck.
“Or,” she said quickly. “We could get warm here.” She really was freezing. And Phoebe and Joe would actually have food in their fridge, unlike Levi.
He looked over at her.
“They’re not home, right?” she asked.
Phoebe was a teacher, so she knew her friend would be at school this time of day. She wasn’t as sure about Joe.
“Joe’s in town,” Levi confirmed.
“Then how about…old time’s sake,” Kate suggested.
They’d stayed together at Phoebe and Joe’s over Christmas. They’d first made love on Phoebe’s couch.
“I like that you can’t wait,” Levi said.
