“Not even Sam?” Why did she go and ask a silly question like that? What was wrong with her? This made her seem jealous.
“Not even her.” He kissed the top of her head. His fingers roved through her hair, massaging her scalp. “She liked it a certain way. Shirt on. Lights off. Missionary style. Hell, you know, all ports are the same during a tsunami. I felt she wasn’t with me as much as fulfilling an obligation.”
She laid her head back down. “Zander…I have something I need to tell you…” Maybe it was the aftermath of an amazing orgasm that made her want to divulge everything, but she had to trust him enough to tell him that she’d seen Rory and about his threats.
“Sure. What is it?”
“Ro—” A soft thud downstairs made her jump. “What was that?”
“I think it’s mom and dad coming home.”
She jumped up so fast he pulled out some of the strands of hair that were wrapped around his hand. “Please tell me it isn’t.” She felt her body flush.
“We’ll get dressed. They won’t know…”
“My clothes, Zander! They’re downstairs in the pool room. Remember.” She groaned, wanting the floor to open and engulf her.
There was a moment’s hesitation before he smiled. “I can run to Kiersten’s room. You two are about the same size. She won’t mind.”
Wynn wanted to argue, but what choice did she have? No way in hell would she walk downstairs in a towel and greet his parents. She’d never live down the humiliation.
He took the step, meeting her, and cupped her cheeks in his warm palms. “Sweetheart, no worries. We’re adults. They won’t think anything, unless you go downstairs looking like the cat who ate the canary.” He kissed her forehead, and in that moment, he could have told her the sky was red and she would have believed him.
Still reeling from what they’d shared, and dressed in Zander’s sister’s clothes, they stepped down the back stairway, but it wasn’t his parents standing in the kitchen. It was a tall, beautiful brunette who must not have heard them come downstairs because when she turned, she jumped and water splashed up from her glass all over her face and onto her shirt. “Shit, Zander. I didn’t know anyone was here.” She reached for a towel from the hook and dabbed at her face and clothing. “What the hell are you doing here?”
“I should be asking you the same thing. I thought you were mom and dad coming home.”
“I’m visiting.” She dropped the towel onto the counter, took the two steps and gave Zander a tight hug. The woman’s gaze looked over her brother’s shoulders. “Maybe it’s a good thing it was me and not mom and dad.” She laughed.
“This is Wynn, my neighbor.” Zander turned. “Wynn, this is my annoying sister, Kiersten.”
“His neighbor, huh?” Kiersten looked from Wynn to Zander and back to Wynn with a knowing smile. Kiersten swept a gaze down Wynn’s clothes—or rather, her clothes. “Well, hello there, Zander’s neighbor.” She stuck out a hand.
“Nice to meet you.” Wynn shook her hand. Getting a better look, it was obvious this was Zander’s sister. She had the Cade looks, just in a feminine way. She was very beautiful. “I’ve heard a lot about you.”
“Don’t believe anything he has to say when it comes to me.” Kiersten smacked Zander lightly on the shoulder.
“I’ve heard all good things from your brothers and parents,” Wynn said.
“So, where is mom and dad?” Kiersten stepped back to the sink and poured more water in the glass.
“She texted saying they would be out all afternoon. Wynn and I came by to grab the boxes of items she’s donating.” Zander’s cell rang from his pocket. He pulled it out and read the screen, concern stretching worry lines around his eyes. “I better answer this.” He stepped out of the room.
“I see he still works all the time,” Kiersten placed her glass on the counter.
“Yes, he does. I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault he works all the time."
“No. I meant because I’m wearing your clothes.” Wynn figured she should just get the awkwardness out of the way instead of just standing there in the woman’s clothes.
She shrugged. “I’d ask, but I don’t think it’s any of my business.” She laughed. Her grey-blue eyes twinkled. “You look great in that shirt. It was always my favorite.”
Wynn touched the button of the blouse and sighed, feeling her heart palpitate. “I-I…”
Kiersten giggled. “I’m joking.” She waved a slender hand. “I thought you could take my humor considering you met my brothers.”
“Sorry, sis, but looks like duty calls.” Zander stepped back into the room.
