My uncle Jake is the man who keeps us all safe.
And me.
I’m a good time. They cut me in because I’m family. Because I was in their circle, but I don’t bring much to the table.
I swing my feet to the floor as I sit up, my back to Kate as I push up from the bed.
“Luke?”
I turn back to find her propped on her elbows, her tits looking amazing as that hair streams out behind her.
She’s nipping at her lip, her eyes worried. “Are you upset with me?”
Not her. I was upset with myself. I bend down, balancing on the good arm as I kiss her lips. “No. Not upset.”
“Okay. But you got up really quick and?—”
I pull back just far enough to talk. “We’re in a bit of a rush today.”
“Oh. Right.”
I kiss her again because she tastes delicious. And because even though I was busy being all offended, she’s the one who just gave me her virginity. I pack that one away to think about later, but right now, she deserves a bit of tenderness.
I kiss her a third time and her mouth melts into mine, her fingers sliding through my hair. When I finally pull back, her eyes looked glazed again.
She can tell me all she wants we shouldn’t have sex again, the truth is in her unfocused eyes.
One side of my mouth quirks up. “Ready for a shower?”
She flushes again. “That sounds great,” she twists her hands together, scooting toward the edge of the bed. “You’re cool with a one-time thing?”
I stand up. I’ve got myself a good girl. One who seems to have gone crazy for my dick. And is trying to convince me that we should keep it casual. If it weren’t for the whole “being chased by murdering twins” part, I’d be in heaven. Then again, I can handle Vincent and Vigo. And Gorilla too. “I’m cool, baby girl.”
“And my touching you in your sleep…” She flushes again.
“You touch my dick anytime you want. No apologies required.”
And then I pull her toward the shower. “I’m gonna clean us both up, and while you’re getting yourself together, I’m gonna see if I can find us some coffee and wheels.”
“Are we lifting another car?”
I glare at her. I live in the gray, she’s not joining me. On that, I am crystal clear. “We are not doing anything. I’m going to buy a car.” Hopefully.
“With a thousand bucks?”
“Eight hundred.” Walmart burned through a couple bills.
I step into the bathroom and turn on the shower.
It’s time to get moving. I’ve got a girl I need to keep safe and a family to save.
CHAPTER SIX
Luke
When I come backout of the shower, Kate’s dressed with her wet hair hanging down her back. She’s sitting on the bed with her knees drawn up to her chest. Her eyes are wide as they follow me. I know she’s worried.
I just can’t quite pinpoint why.
