“Listen, I’m sorry. But I barely know you, and I shouldn’t have let this happen.”
She turned and looked at me. “We both wanted it, Alex. It’s no big deal, so don’t get all bent out of shape over it.”
“You’re Adam’s sister.”
“So what? He never has to know. If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to take a shower.” She climbed off the bed and walked to the bathroom.
I picked up my bathing suit from the floor and went upstairs to my bedroom. It wasn’t like me to lose control like that. Emerson James had done something to me. Something that I couldn’t explain.
Emerson
His scent still lingered throughout my room. He didn’t trust me when I said I was on birth control, which pissed me off. I shouldn’t have let it bother me. If he didn’t trust me, that was his problem, not mine. I was a young woman, and I needed sex. I could tell he wanted me, so I let him have me. That way, we both got what we wanted. To say he was amazing would be an understatement. He was strong, and the way he brought me to two orgasms was incredible. Half the time, I had to fake it with the other guys I slept with. They were lucky if they could manage to bring me to have one. But with Alex, it happened flawlessly, and for that, I was grateful. I could tell he had regrets, but I didn’t, at least not at this moment. Would this change things between us? No. He would still be the same pompous ass he was when I first met him.
The next morning, I got up, dressed, went down to the kitchen, and started a pot of coffee. I popped a banana-nut muffin in the microwave. As I was about to eat it, Alex walked in.
“Good morning. Is breakfast ready?” he asked as he poured himself a cup of coffee.
“No. You were supposed to cook breakfast this morning,” I replied as I bit into my muffin.
“You’re kidding me, right?” He stared blankly at me.
“Nope. I won. You lost, and the loser had to cook breakfast.”
“We went over this last night, Emerson, and I told you that I don’t cook.”
“Then I guess you can have a muffin.” I smiled.
He mumbled as he took a muffin from the counter and took his coffee into the dining room. He looked really pissed, but Ididn’t care. I went to my room and grabbed my birth control pills from the nightstand. Walking into the dining room, I threw them on the table.
“You can see for yourself that I wasn’t lying.” I walked away.
A few moments later, he threw my pills on the island and left the house without saying a word.
Over the next few days, I barely saw him. I kept myself busy by meeting up with Christine and Bayli. The only time I really saw Alex was when I made his breakfast. I loved to cook, so I didn’t mind. The only words we had spoken to each other were “good morning.” I guess he was still holding a grudge against me for not making his breakfast the other morning. He was a big boy and would get over it sooner or later. When he’d come strolling in around eleven o’clock in the evening, he’d go straight up to his room. It bothered me a bit that since we’d had sex, he’d barely spoken to me. But this situation was only temporary because as soon as Adam came back, I would leave, and then I wouldn’t have to worry about Alex Parker ever again, even if he did leave an imprint on me.
Chapter Eleven
Emerson
After going for a late-night swim, I grabbed a bottle of water from the refrigerator. As I was walking through the living room, I saw Alex lying on the couch. I didn’t even know he was home.
“Are you okay?” I stopped and asked.
“I’m fine. Just go to bed, Emerson,” he spoke in his annoying, commanding voice.
“Are you sure? You don’t look too well.”
“I said I’m fine. It was a long day, and I’m tired.”
“Okay. Good night.” I walked away, and he didn’t say a word.
When I got up the next morning at six a.m., I noticed Alex was still on the couch, asleep. I made a pot of coffee and went to my bedroom to get dressed. When I came back out, I saw him sitting up. He looked as pale as a ghost.
“Are you okay?” I asked in a panic.
“I don’t know. My heart is racing, my head is killing me, and my vision is blurry.”
“Are you having chest pains?”
