Not likeme.
Unfortunately, Eoin heard my sniffles.
Rubbing his thumbs over my tears, he leaned away and stared down at me. “What’s wrongbaby?”
I swiped the back of my hands over my cheeks. “Nothing, I’mfine.”
“You’ve been saying that a lot lately.”
“Because it’strue.”
“Then why are you crying?”
“I’m just really happy for you. I love you and want only the best things foryou.”
“I love you too, but you didn’t see me crying when you nailed that presentation,” he chuckled.
I laughed through my tears and shrugged. “Sorry, must be a chick thingthen.”
His eyes flicked between mine, his gaze probing. “If you say so,” he answered, pulling me back against his chest while I breathed out a silent sigh of relief.
It had been a week since those two blue lines went and changed my life. I hadn’t decided what I was going to do, but I needed to come to a decision soon. I didn’t think I could hide my mood swings and nausea from Eoin much longer. It was a miracle he hadn’t become suspicious already—I was pretty sure a person couldn’t legitimately suffer from the lingering effects of the flu for as long as I’d been relying upon that excuse.
“By the way,” he said, changing the subject. “Have you talked to Tanya lately?”
I shook my head. “Not for a couple of days. I’ve meant to call her though.”
“You should,” he answered, his voice cautious.
I scooted off his lap. “Why, what’s wrong?”
“Who said anything was wrong?”
“Your voice sounds strange.”
“Fuck, you’re observant.”
I rolled my eyes. If I were half as observant as he gave me credit for, I would have realized I was pregnant before I started throwing up everywhere.
Eoin ran his hand through his hair and then shook his head. “Aidan got some chick pregnant.”
Ohshit.
“What?”
“Yeah, he told a few of us today. One of those girls who’s always hanging around the team. I guess he’s fucked her a few times over the last years, but this time the condom broke and now she’s claiming she’s pregnant.”
“That’s horrible,” I said, my stomach rolling. I could sympathize with the woman, but I hated her too for my friend’s sake. “Poor Tanya.”
“I don’t know what’s going there, but they’ve been circling each other allyear.”
“Longer than that,” I answered, my voice shaky. “Something happened between her and Aidan a couple of seasons ago. She won’t talk about it, but it wasbad.”
“They seem fine. They’re banging, right?”
“I don’t thinkso.”
“Really?”
