“Getting turned on putting oil on your boobs, and you trying to distract me from it, is not the same thing that’s happening out there.”

Mel’s smiling as she walks over with a glass of water and lemon. “Hey hun. How you been?”

“Good.” I say, smiling in return.

“We sure do miss seeing your face around here.”

“I miss coming here. I keep meaning to make time, but there’s always something going on. I definitely need to reassess my school-life balance.”

Squeezing my shoulder, she says, “I’m sure things will fall into place soon. But since you’re here, might I suggest today’s tasty special?”

“You’ve never steered me wrong before.”

Finn stares at the menu, and asks, “What’s this special? I don’t see it on the menu.”

I tell him, “It won’t be. It’s something they’re shopping around to customers before it becomes a part of the menu, and it’s better to go into it blind.”

He says, “I’ll have just have the apple crisp grilled chicken salad.”

Mel scoops up our menus. “I’ll put those orders right in.”

When she walks off I say, “You’re missing out, Finn. Mel’s recommendations are always good ones.”

“I’m sure. The meatloaf surprise or pumpkin spice fritters are all yours.” He turns to stare back out over the beach. “It’s a wonder they ever complete a challenge on time. I’m all for a sandy, good time, but you should always get the job done first.”

“When we went to the staging area at the gallery, you tried to convince me to have a quickie while sitting on top of a gold lion statue.”

“Technically, we were at the end of the job. We had what we needed and were heading back out. So I thought a celebratory romp would be good for morale.”

“My morale was fine.”

“Mine was a little low. Deacon had been cock blocking me all night.”

I chuckle, because he’s sitting across from me, pouting. This rivalry they have certainly keeps things interesting. “He was right, Finn. That wasn’t the right time for an unsatisfying quickie.”

“Deacon thinks sex should last the length of a cage fight, but you and I both know satisfaction can also be found in a hasty hookup.”

“It can, but the right time and place is also a factor in it, and the staging area, outfitted with league cameras that were on a timed outage, was not the right time or place to whip your dick out.”

Mel arrives with our food. “Grilled apple crisp salad for you, young man.” She says, placing Finn’s tray in front of him. “And lamb feta party bites, rosemary veal meatballs, and a cucumber salad for you.”

Finn’s staring so hard at the spot in front of me that I know he’s plotting to steal something off of my plate. I pull it closer and hold up my fork. “Don’t even think about it.”

“That’s the special?Noneof that is on the menu.”

“True, but they’ll probably add it to their catering menu. I told you Mel’s suggestions never miss.”

“Sharing is caring, Pet.”

“When are you gonna listen? I don’t care.” I say, popping a meatball in my mouth.

He comes over to my side of the booth, a devilish smile on his face. “What are you doing?”

His arm slides along the back of the booth, his other hand is in my lap. “Proving you’ve just lied to me.”

“Now, wai-” He kisses me, hard and fast. The hand in my lap is now inside my pants, rubbing my clit. I gasp, then moan into his mouth. The kiss deepens and I can’t bring myself to care that we’re in the middle of the restaurant next door to my grandmother’s hotel, sitting at a window booth where anyone can see us.

All that matters is the growing sensation between my legs. A throat clears. Reluctantly, I drag my mouth away from Finn’s. Mel’s eyes twinkle and she looks like she’s trying to hold back her smile. “I’m just gonna box this up for you two.”
