Finn steps forward and kisses me. Then dodges my hands when I reach for his belt. “Nice try, Pet. You’re not seducing your way out of this. We need to finish our conversation.”
“Don’t you mean interrogation and accusation?”
Holden says, “Clarification. That’s all we want.”
“That’s never all you want. We’ve done this once before, remember? You guys go digging around and come up with these scenarios in your head and disregard whatever I have to say.”
Pax says, “We’ll listen without judgement this time.”
“I don’t have anything to say. Yes, Nikloaus Constantin was my grandfather and no, I didn’t know about him when I moved here. I found out last year, and I didn’t say anything because it wasn’t anybody’s business.” Looking each of them in the eye, I ask, “Clear enough? Good. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to get to class.”
Holden steps in front of me, blocking my path to the door. “Nikloaus Constantin was the first male born in five generations.”
“Lucky for him to be born into a family full of girl power.” I’m sure he’s spent countless hours digging into Nikloaus Constantin’s past. I’m so gladAlexzdoesn’t have a social media profile or make a habit of showing his face out in public.
Holden continues, “My father hid pictures of the accident report and scene in a safe in his room. Can you think of a reason he’d be interested in something that happened before he was born?”
“He’s an FBI agent, and on the security council. Isn’t investigating incidents with league members part of the job?”
Finn grabs my ponytail, wrapping it around his fist, yanking my head to the side as he kisses on my neck. “You wanna do this the hard way, huh?”
“Hard way? Did you give me an easy option?”
“Nope. There’s only one option. Answer our questions.”
“I’m answering, but you don’t seem to like the answers, so how about you three tell me what you think?”
“Holden thinks you’ve been in the middle of a massive coverup since birth.”
“He’s right about that part.” I moan. Tilting my head further.
Holden pops the button on my jeans, slips his fingers inside and says, “I also think the only reason to go to the lengths they did to hide your existence is if your life was in danger, and theonly reason it would be in danger in this town, is if your presence threatened the status quo.”
“I’m a woman.” I pant, rolling my hips against his hand. “There is no threatening the status quo around here.”
He says, “There wasn’t, but there is now, since the council voted for women to join the league.”
“I can see.” I gasp as he pushes a finger inside me. “How my awesomeness could be. Intimidating. But I was a baby. So your theory is flawed, unless somehow they had the gift of foresight and knew the change was coming.”
Pax adds, “My father knew, and he admits most of the council expected the women to fail. He planned to use the failure as leverage to request a vote to oust my grandfather.”
Finn toys with my tits and adds, “That didn’t work. You were, as you said, awesome.” I groan my agreement. “So he needed another way to knock you down. He had you arrested and planned to force a marriage and a baby on you.”
“Sick fuck.”
Holden adds another finger. It feels so good and I’m almost there. He says, “He had several options once that happened. He could have miraculously discovered the truth about the Cox family’s manipulated standing, and blamed Malcolm Senior for the deception. That would have made it easier to push him out, or-”
“Or?” I pant, as Finn sucks on the sensitive flesh below my ear.
“Or he could keep quiet and reveal the truth about your heritage. With you as a wife and mother of an heir, he would have been twice as powerful.”
“How. How would that help? I’m. Fuck. Don’t stop. I’m nobody.”
Pax steps closer and says, “Answer a question for us, Nem, and they’ll let you cum.”
“Wha- What question?”
“Who is Caius Adrianakis?”
