“It can be.”

Wolfe says, “As much as I’d love to hear the rest of this banter, now is not the time. Yes, Thea. We followed up on a lead without you. We didn’t want you anywhere near this.”

“I should be a part of tracking down clues, since my team building clue helped get us here.” I take a calming breath. I know why they didn’t take me. My being here with them without my guards is risky. “So, what was the lead?”

Finn says, “Holden found the insurance company that handled the claim for the fire. It’s a local company, and they still had the claims records on file. The copy paper is because we literally made copies of everything. We thought it would raise too much suspicion to use their paper.”

“And the tape?”

“That was for if there was a guard that needed to be tied up. Like I said, we didn’t have to use it.” He sounds really sad about it too.

Holden says, “There’s a lot to weed through since the claim was for the building damage. But the adjuster included the valuables inside. These are pictures of what was left of the files.”

I walk further into the room, finding a spot on the floor. “Okay, let’s see what you found.”

We’ve been sorting through the paperwork for about thirty minutes when Finn picks up a picture of a leather-bound book and says, “Looks like the Ad Exec isn’t the only one who liked this journal.”

“It’s not a journal. It’s an accounting ledger.” Holden points to the stack of papers on his right. “I’ve got two other pictures just like it. One of the photos has a side-by-side view of the first two pages. ”

I grab the pile he’s showing us. The cover has a Roman numeral ten on it. Holden says, “Wait. This is the type of book you stole?”

“Yup.”

Finn answers, “I didn’t have a reason to, since I was told it was basically the dude’s diary. Thea was gone, and I was in a hurry to get back to town so I could round up more suspects. The last thing on my mind was reading about some stranger’s inner thoughts and weird sex dreams.”

“Do you remember seeing a number on the cover?”

Finn purses his lips as he thinks about it. “It was the roman numeral eight, with the initials T.M.”

“You’re sure?” Holden asks.

“Positive.”

I’m stretched back out on my bed, willing my body to sleep, but it’s no use. I’m still too wired from all the reading I did earlier. The door between the rooms opens a little wider and Finn walks through it, coming over to the bed. Leaning on my elbow, I ask, “What are you doing?”

“I knew you’d be up, so I came over to watch tv so I don’t disturb the other three.”

“You did, huh?”

“Yup.”

“Then why are you getting into bed?” I ask as he cuddles up next to me.

“There’s probably nothing on.” He grips my hip, pulling me flush against him, slowly grinding against me. “Besides, you need your rest.”

“I was resting fine on my own.”

“If that were true, you wouldn’t be wide awake. I can help you get to sleep.” Kissing the back of my neck, he says, “You know, orgasms are good for that.”

I do know, and that doesn’t sound like such a bad idea right now. I move his hand between my legs. “Go on and be helpful, then.”

“Mmm. You sure?”

I nod, turning my head to kiss him. Each brush of his hand makes me wetter. The bed dips in front of me and a hand brushes across my breasts. I don’t need to see who it is. Holden’s firm grip leaves no room for doubt about who’s touching me there. He pushes my shirt over them, his lips grazing across my skin.

“What do we have here?” Wolfe asks from the doorway. I drag my mouth away from Finn’s kisses to look at him. “Finn offered to help me fall asleep.”

“Interesting bedtime routine he’s showing you.”
