I tune out the rest of what he’s saying when someone walks by and brushes against me. I grab his arm and pull him closer, nuzzling his neck. Eloise’s annoying voice mocks me. “God, she really is a slut.”
“Pet…”
I ignore Finn. Looking over my shoulder, I ask, “Blane, are you coming or what?”
He climbs to his feet and comes to stand next to the guy.
“Thea!”
“Dammit, fuck off, Finn!”
He growls at the guys, “Let’s make something clear. I don’t give a shit what she asked you. I don’t care if she flashed her tits and shoved your face against them while palming your dick. You don’t touch her.”
Is this some more legacy shit? I whip my shirt off and fling it behind me, moving to stand directly in front of the guys. I palm their dicks just like Finn mentioned.
“Ignore him. Play with my tits all you want.”
Eloise gets out another jab. “And this is why thinking you’d ever be a legacy, that you’d ever be good enough for any legacy man, is a joke. You are the common whore I always knew you to be.” I hear a camera flash. “And now everyone else knows it, too. Congratulations, Thea. You finally succeeded. No one will accept you as a legacy now.”
Chapter45
Finn
I’ve been watching Thea all night. She started off against a wall, clinging to the shadows, keeping a safe distance from everyone, but after a while, her mood changed. She joined her friends on the makeshift dance floor and she seemed to have a good time.
I lost sight of her when she left the dance floor with Blane. It was Eloise’s hysterics that clued me into her location. When I walked up, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. She was arguing with Eloise, like always. I thought Thea was fucking with me. Pushing back because that’s just what she does when I told Blane to get lost. Until she turned around and started petting someone else.
That’s not Thea. She’s not the overly touchy type. Now she’s fidgety. Her body looking for stimuli, her pupils dilated. I recognize the signs. She’s been dosed. One of the more friendly party favors in her system. The drugs take hold quickly. In a few more minutes, she’ll be too out of it to fight its effects. I don’t have time to wonder if Blane is responsible. It would be a ballsy move, but I don’t put anything past anyone these days.
She’s swaying to the music, hands in the air. “Thea, you need to listen to me.”
“Oh, I think I’ve heard everything I needed to hear from your futurewife.”
I slip my arm around her waist and drag her out of the room, looking for some place private. Her shirt’s already off, her pants might not be far behind.
“Thea, you’ve been dosed. You’re about to feel a lot of things at once. I need you to focus.” We make it to the frat meeting room, which is empty. I flick on the light to get a better look at her. Her eyes are glassy. I don’t even know if she’s here anymore.
“LaReaux.”
Where the hell did he come from? At the sound of Coach Wolfe’s voice, her head snaps up, and she stands taller. Sort of. She’s staring at him, waiting for him to say something else. I’ve never seen her like this before. Even leaning against me, I can tell she’s in obedient mode.
“I want you to do exactly what Finn says.”
She swirls her fingers in the air. “Fuck, Finn.”
I readjust my hold to keep her from walking out the door. “You’re on a very potent blend of drugs, Pet. It just may come to that.”
She shifts from one foot to the other, and gasps when I accidentally bump her shoulder. She’s feeling it now. She turns to me, her lower lip snagged between her teeth, her eyes hooded. An invitation to kiss her if I’ve ever seen one.
Coach Wolfe says, “This is important, Thea. Do what he says.”
She moves, so she’s standing in front of me. “I don’t like Finn.”
He nods and the look on his face says he doesn’t like me either. “I get that. But you need him. You do what he says or I’m canceling that fight I promised you.”
She squirms against me. More like drags her ass against me. “You can’t do that.”
“Sure I can. You haven’t shown up for training. You told me you wanted to quit, anyway. Besides, if I have to take you to a hospital, you won’t pass the drug test, which will automatically bar you from official events.”
