“This is the second time that I know of, but it could be more.” I look around the living room, trying to spot other things she may have messed with.
Pax turns to Holden. “And you knew about this?”
“I did.”
“And neither of you said anything?”
“What was there to say? She broke in, scented my beanie and went on about her business. It wasn’t a big deal.”
“Scented? Like put perfume on it?”
I grin, remembering what she did. “Only the best kind.God, I need her to do it again.”
“You want to walk around smelling like her perfume?”
“Yes, but only you’ve got the wrong P word.”
He looks to Holden for clarification. “He wants to smell like her pussy because apparently, she wiped his hat against it.”
Pax shakes his head and rubs his hand through his hair. “Just like a female version of Finn.”
“Exactly, which is why I know this is her doing, and it means she’s forgiven me.”
“That logic doesn’t track for all of us. I haven’t apologized for shit, and neither has Holden. So even if she did this to your knife, it’s someone different who fucked with our stuff.”
Holden interjects, “We could just ask her, instead of assuming we know the answer, since that didn’t work out so well the last time.”
I nod. He’s right. We jumped to conclusions and now we have to undo the shit we did based on those wrong assumptions. Even though I know I’m right, we can’t just go over there and accuse her. She’ll think we’re attacking her again and the plan is to soften her up.
I’ll have to think of something. Thea retaliating is progress, and I refuse to lose the ground I’ve gained.
Chapter36
Deacon
Ihated having to put the breaks on what was happening the day I watched Thea steal Pax’s bike, but there was no way I could let it go further. Not where we were and not when I know she’s still got shit to work out. But,goddamn,it was hard to walk away, when all I wanted to do was rip our clothes off and slide home.
My sweetness has the fire of a dragon in and out of the ring, and the more time I spend around her, the less I care about getting burned. My hand and I have become damn near inseparable since our time in Palisade Shores.
Tonight will be another solo mission, as I envision her lips wrapped around me. Of course, the devil on my shoulder says, why think when you can do? The campus is full of dark corners and secret alcoves and passageways. I could drag us to one and put myself out of my misery.
And because karma is a such a bitch, I’m coming out of the faculty dining hall at the same time Thea’s exiting hers. I feel the rage slide through me as Austin Kincaid puts his arm around her shoulder, tucking her against his side. I may have ruled him out as a suspect in her attack, but that doesn’t mean I like how cozy he is with her.
Four days ago, she was clawing at me, inviting me to fuck her, and now she’s moving on to him? She should, and I don’t have a right to be pissed, but I am. No, pissed isn’t the right word. What Iamis losing my mind. I have to be, because that’s the only way to explain why I pull my phone out and text her.
Me
I’m thinking of all the ways I can break his arm
I see her reach into her pocket and retrieve her phone. She’s always so in control and tries not to give anything away. That’s why she’s the perfect fighter. But I see the way her body goes on alert, trying to figure out where I am. They stop to talk to some of Austin’s friends and she sends me a reply.
Thea
Could’ve been your arms, but you made it clear you weren’t interested. Now it’s someone else’s turn.
To hammer home her point, she steps closer to him, and this time he places a possessive hand against her lower back. She doesn’t flinch at the touch. She’s a lot more comfortable around him than she is around anyone else. Is it because they’ve been fucking or because she’s so determined to antagonize me?
