“Yes. It’ll be in my room.”

“No Finn, I want to be in my room. I need to be around my things.”

“Fine, I'll hang out here with you.”

I push against his chest, pushing him out. “Alone. I need to be alone.”

“Pet.”

“Look Finn. I appreciate you getting my bag and helping me earlier, but I need space.”

“Why does it sound like you’re wanting space from me? After what happened, I thought we were done with the space thing.”

“We had fun. Hooking up. It was a great distraction. But I don’t want to give you the wrong impression.”

“Are you trying to tell me it was a mistake?”

“I was needy, and I used you. I’m sorry. I-”

“I was worried, and I needed you. We needed each other. Don’t try to run now, Thea, and don’t think your little space speech is going to keep me away from you forever.”

“I’m seeing someone, Finn. We can’t hook up again.”

“Who? Coach Wolfe?” He chuckles. “Yeah, Pet. I already know all about it and that doesn’t change anything for me. What about you, Holden?”

I look over his shoulder to where Holden’s leaning against the wall.

“Nope. Although, I actually like when Thea runs.”

Shit. My walls clench because I’m fucked up in the head after everything that’s happened. I like when I run from him too.

He pushes from the wall, takes my bag from Finn and hands it to me.

They both retreat to Finn's room. I drag my phone from my bag and dial Wolfe’s number.

“I see the boys delivered your bag.”

“Yeah. I need to make sure nothing is missing.”

“It’s not. Unless they let it out of their sight. And if they did, I’ll kill them.”

“So they’re the ones who told you what happened?”

“I knew something was off because your bag was in the lost and found. You’re not careless with your shit. They gave me the brief rundown, and I gave them your bag and a copy of the gym’s access logs.”

“Wolfe, you can’t trust them.”

“I agree. They’re a bunch of entitled pricks, but anybody trying to help you helps me, too. I made you a promise, didn’t I?”

“Yes.”

“And I always keep my promises. This temporary alliance is just one tool for me to do that.”

“I don’t want you to get into trouble for me. It’s not worth it.”

“But you are, sweetness. You’re worth it, and so much more.”

He switches gears. “Now. Treating dehydration for the rest of the evening. You’ve got plenty of fluids?”
