“You admit you broke the rules? The termination letter is just writing itself.”

“I admit I found a student broken and beaten in a burning coffin and I admit the school covered it up. I admit there have been no list of suspects and the investigation closed without a satisfying resolution. And I admit that when Thea and the Hughes’ decide to sue the school, I will be more than happy to testify as a witness to what I saw and experienced that night and the weeks following, during her recovery.”

“What?” Finn frowns and looks at the other two. “What do you know about her recovery?”

“More than you. More than the doctors here. More than the teachers on campus. More than the administration.”

My gaze sweeps across their faces as I let the implications sink in. “That’s right. I’m not operating on rumors or hearsay. I know what she went through. What she’s still going through.” Addressing Finn, I say, “Firing me hurtsyour girl.” I put those words in finger quotes. “Not me.”

Holden’s posture changes. He’s still on edge, but he loses a fraction of the aggression. “How close are the two of you?”

“I train her at school and at my gym. I’m always available for my clients, coaching them through whatever fights and battles they’re facing.”

His jaw clenches, then he says, “I chased Thea through the woods on Mayhem Night, but she was unharmed the last time I saw her.”

“And today?”

“We don’t know what happened. Pax is the one who found her in the Sauna, and he took her to the infirmary. We’re here for her bag because her keys are in there and right now she’s locked out of her room.” He gestures towards the door. “And I need the access log because we’re trying to figure out who tried to bake her like a potato. There are no cameras pointing to the sauna, so the access log is our best chance at finding out who was here.”

I toss the bag to Finn and tell Holden. “Let’s go. I’ll pull up the list in my office.”

He falls into step beside me and says, “You believed all that? What if I’m lying?”

When we step into my office, I say, “The benefit to not playing the games the other teachers play, and not turning a blind eye to what’s happening, is that I see everything going on around me.”

Walking over to my desk, I ask, “Hard copy or digital?”

“Both.”

I pull up the admin account and the access list, waiting until the printer spits out the pages, before saying, “Play your little legacy games, make her a part of your group. Find the assailants. But if I find out, any of you are involved in what’s been happening to Thea. They’ll never find your bodies.”

“You’re threatening us over a student?”

Handing him the printout, I make my point as clear as can, “I wouldn’t waste my time or my breath over a student. I’m telling you how far I’ll go to avengemygirl.”

Chapter70

Thea

Irummage through Finn’s dresser for some shorts. He’s crazy if he thinks I’m hanging around here in nothing but his t-shirt. In fact, I don’t wanna hang out here at all.

After a few more minutes of hunting around, I find what I need to get myself into my room. I climb over the balcony and pick the lock on the glass door. I don’t know why I didn’t think about doing it before. Before I slipped up and had sex with him.

It felt good in the moment and now I feel guilty because of my situation with Wolfe. He says he doesn’t mind when I hook up with other people, but I’m not sure how that can be true or how long he’ll feel that way.

It’s one thing to only be casually fooling around, but I see him all the time. It’s gonna get weird. Right?

The message notifications are pinging on my laptop when I walk into my bedroom. I flip it open and pull up the messages on the school app.
