“Another blind spot. How many more of them are there on campus?”
“Enough to be concerning.”
“We need to fix that.”
“I can’t mount cameras in bathrooms and shower areas, and we shouldn’t need cameras in any of the other areas. Thea’s status should be enough to keep her safe.”
“Well, it’s not.”
“And we need to figure out why that is.”
“That’s an easy answer. Somebody’s gone rogue.”
“Or somebody’s about to make a move and officially challenge our position here. They might be orchestrating these attacks on Thea as evidence of why The League should pick a new Trium. Or finally pick another family to rule alongside us.”
I hear Pax’s voice in the hall and jump over the couch, rushing to fling open my door. She’s got that look on her face again. The one she had after her attack. The look in her eyes that lets me know she’s not really here. She’s detaching, shrinking back on herself. Pushing me away is sure to follow. I can’t stand the idea of her going back into zombie mode. I grab her, crushing her to my chest. “Thank god you’re okay.”
She’s stiff in my arms, but I ignore it, lifting her up. “Let’s get you settled, Pet.”
“Finn, I don’t need help walking.”
I tilt my head, capturing her gaze. “I know exactly what you need and I’m going to make sure you get it.”
“I don’t need…”
“Hush, Pet. There’s no fighting me on this.” I tuck her head in the crook of my neck and carry her into my room, past Holden sitting on the couch and into my bedroom. I don’t put her down until we reach the bathroom, lowering her onto the counter.
I start the shower, making sure the water isn’t too hot. I’m sure she’s had enough of heat, but she smells salty from the workout and steam. I know she wants to wash the grime off.
“Finn, I can’t shower here. I don’t have any of my stuff.”
“You can just use mine and I’ll get you a t-shirt to relax in.”
I squeeze my dick. Thinking of her smelling like me and wearing my shit is the ultimate turn on.
“We’ve already talked about it, sending the wrong message when girls wear your stuff.”
I look down at what she’s wearing now. Pax’s zip up. Maybe she should have this conversation with him, since she wore it across campus. That definitely sent a message. I pretend not to notice that the jacket is all she’s wearing.
“Just shower, and then come out and we’ll come up with a plan.”
“A plan for what?”
“For figuring out who keeps fucking with you!”
“According to Pax and the doctor, I was overheated and couldn’t work the doorknob.”
“Is that what you think happened?”
She worries her lip and shakes her head. “I just can’t figure out why people keep coming for me.”
“Neither can we, but we’re gonna get answers. Now shower, and when you feel more like yourself, come out to the living room.”
Her hand snaps out, snagging my shirt and pulling me to her. Her lips crashing against mine. She works her hands under my shirt, her nails raking across my skin. “Pet, what are you…”
“Trying to feel more like myself.”
“This isn’t the way. You need to rest.”
