Finn’s looking at me, like he knows I had something to do with her pledging. “You know what’s funny? There were only supposed to be forty-eight invitees, and Layla-Jean and Thea are not the type of girls the Zeta’s usually court.”

Holden flips the cover of his tablet closed. “Their Prospectus ranks say they’re worthy pledges. My guess is Zeta Nu had similar complaints to the ones we saw on the survey, and invited them to pledge to show the application process is fair, even though the selection committee have already picked their ideal pledges.”

I nod. “I’m sure they have, too. I doubt Thea and her friend are resourceful enough or strong enough to make it to the end. But it’ll be fun watching them try, don’t you think?”

Finn pins me with his gaze. “You don’t usually care about pledge season. I’m the one who keeps track of the rankings.”

“Well, this year I think I’ll watch too. I’ll even enter the bracket and put my money on who I think the top ten girls will be.”

They both nod, and we get up from our seats, heading to our frat house to enter our names in the pool. This is perfect. I get to watch Thea get trampled by the other pledges, and make some money when she doesn’t make it through.

Plus, her going through the pledge process puts an extra set of eyes on her. Zeta Nu pledge masters watch their pledges like hawks. Making sure their rituals and initiation tests are protected from the other sororities. I want a hand at making the bitch miserable. I shoot Eloise a text.

We’re not supposed to know what the pledges actually go through and their ranks are posted on the leader board, which only the leadership of Rho Beta Psi has access to. But nobody can keep a secret from us and the chastity vow ceremony is a long standing Zeta Nu tradition.

Hell week is the lead up to Mayhem Night, when we celebrate the end of pledge season. We work in groups or teams to pull our pranks around campus and participate in challenges against the other fraternities and sororities.

A lot of times, the teams wind up bunking together to minimize the chances of getting caught alone by their opponents. That week, Finn will be more compliant about doing what she wants. Destruction and booze usually puts him in a good mood. As long as she’s not being a raging cunt.

We find Garrett in the business center with our recruitment roster and initiation schedule on the screen. He’s trying to pair up our pledges with Zeta Nu’s for some of the joint activities.

“Are we really doing the obstacle course this year?” Finn asks, staring at the screen. It’s been cancelled for the last two years, because the Zeta Nu pledges act like they’re too delicate to go through it.

“It’s happening.” Garrett assures us. “We gave in to Zeta Nu’s demands for the last two years. This is our year to get what we want. If they back out of this, then the alternative is a lot worse.”
