Page 56 of Redemption

I bring the hammer down so fast, that he has no time to tense up. The nail drives right through his hand and embeds into the wood of the chair. Bono’s voice drowns out his screams as blood drips down onto the dirty floor and I can almost see why Rory digs this shit. It’s kind of cathartic. I place another nail on top of his other hand and smile. “Let’s try that again. Shall we?”

“I have nothing to tell ye.” He pants through the pain and I’m almost sure he’s close to passing out. It takes a couple of tries for him to get his words out. For some reason his stubbornness is pissing me off more than normal. Sweat drips down my back as I grind my teeth so hard my jaw aches. Time to try a different approach.

“You ever play the game Whack-a-mole, Carrie?” I swing the hammer around by the handle in rhythm with the music as Bono belts out the chorus and I watch my words penetrate through his thick head. “You don't mind if I call you Carrie, do you?” Not that I give a fuck if he does.

“Go to hell.” He groans as blood drips down his neck.

Without warning, I bring the hammer down on the chair right between his legs. “Oops. Looks like I missed. Your dick must be pretty small for my aim to be such shit.”

“Ye’re fecking crazy!” Carrick jerks against the chair in a piss poor attempt to avoid being hit with the hammer.

“You have no idea.” I swing the wooden handle around and watch him squirm. “Tell me who hired you. Or the next time I might actually hammer your tiny dick to this chair.”

“Feck Ye!” Carrick spits out between a mouthful of blood.

“Sorry. Wrong answer.” With a smile plastered on my face, I slam the hammer down between his legs so hard the wood splits and this time I don’t miss. It slams down right on his dick. He lets out a blood curdling scream that would make any grown man cry. Even Asher and Zane wince from where they’re standing. I have to admit it does make my own dick hurt, but it’s nothing less than he deserves.

I take a deep drag of the cigarette Zane handed me earlier as I crane my neck to the side watching Carrick try to curl in on himself. His face turns a bright shade of green. “That looks like it hurts.”

The guy that Rory and Connor are carving up shouts at that moment causing Carrick to lift his head in his direction. My fingers splay over the top of his bald head and twist his face back to me. I’m sure watching them carve his friend up is fucking with his head, but I still need his complete attention. “Don’t worry about him. They’ll be done with him soon enough.” His pupils are dilated as his eyes glaze over. He’s seconds from passing out and I can’t let that happen. I snap in his face a couple of times to bring his attention back where it needs to be, but he doesn’t even flinch. “Focus, Carrie.”

“I can’t. He’ll fecking kill me.” His chin rests on his chest as head bobbles and blood dribbles down the side of his face onto his neck. The fucker is starting to sound like a broken record.

“What the fuck you think we’re going to do?” Asher digs his fingers deeper into Carrick’s shoulders, driving his point home.

“My brother’s right.” I shove the tip of the hammer against his chest. “You will die for your sins. Only choice left for you is how bad do you want to suffer first? You tell us what we want to know, I’ll end it quick, but you jerk me around and I’ll move onto your balls next.”

A few beats of silence ticks by as he glares at me. Then his lips break out into a wide smirk. “Ye really think ye have it all figured out don’t ye? That we’d make it that easy for ye?” He takes one look at me face and shakes his head as he lets out a maniacal laugh. “I didn’t think ye were that bloody stupid, but he was right. Ye fecking fell for it.”

“Fell for what?” My eyes narrow at him as I do my best to keep my temper under control.

“Loren knew ye were sweet on her even before ye came lookin’. Knew he could lure ye in to bring her back for us.”

“You’re lying.” A lead weight settles in my gut at his words and I swallow the lump forming in my throat.

“Ye made it too feckin’ easy. Her pussy must be feckin’ gold. I can’t wait to have a taste of it for meself.” He’s talking, but I’m not hearing anything else he’s saying. My head’s too busy spinning at that one revelation. We’ve been fucking played.

Blood pounds in my ears as his words settle deep into my bones. My knuckles whiten against the handle of the hammer as my brain struggles to make sense of it. Everything comes roaring back to me in a flood and I’m all out of patience with this asshole. He’s wasting my time. Time that could be spent with Kelsey. I drop the hammer and pull out my Glock, burying the barrel against his temple and pull the trigger.

I can’t breathe. My chest is constricting in on itself as the warmth of his blood and bits of what I’m sure is his brain matter coat my face. I shoot my eyes over to Asher and Zane. Both of them come to the same conclusion I do. “Her fucking dad set us up.”

Asher pulls out his phone and his face goes ashen. “Fuck!”

“What’s wrong?” I shove my gun back into the waistband of my jeans and keep my focus on my brother.

“Cameras picked up cars circling the house.” Asher’s looking at his phone as a muscle jerks in his cheek.

“Shit!” I’m seconds from running out the door when Rory’s voice stops me.

“Problem?” He’s covered in blood and resembling something out of horror movie, not that I don’t look much better with the blood and brain matter all over me.

“We need to get the fuck out of here. They’re at my house.” Asher’s half way to the door when he stops and glances at the two dead bodies we’ve left in our wake. “What about them?”

“Leave them.” Rory grabs his phone from the dock bathing us in silence. “My dad has cleaners that’ll take care of it for us. We have to move now.”

The five of us rush to the van and tear out of the parking lot as fast as we can. Rory drives this time while Connor pulls out his phone and makes a call. Asher and I do the same, but ours keep going to voicemail.

“Teeg, get the feck out of there now. You hear me.” A muffled voice echos through the phone before Connor speaks again. “It’s a set up. The whole thing was a diversion to get us out of the way. Take them to dad’s house and we’ll meet you there.”

My blood runs cold as his words hit me. We played right into their fucking hands. And Kelsey’s going to pay the price.
