“I don’t know, but I’m going to find out.” Asher’s whole body tenses as he squeezes Charlee tighter against his chest.

Th phone in Zane’s hand starts going off and I feel like all the oxygen is being sucked out in a huge vortex. His eyes dip down to the screen as it lights up with an incoming text. “Well, looks like we can ask him ourselves. He wants a meeting.”

“When?” Axel asks, throwing an arm around my shoulder and tucking me in against his side. The beat of his heart pounds erratically against my ear causing me to constrict around him tighter.

“Tonight.” Zane’s Adams apple moves as he visibly swallows.

My hands push off Axel’s chest enough for me to meet his eyes. “I’m coming with you.”

Axel shakes his head before I’m even finishing my sentence. “No way.”

“Ax—”

“Remember when I told you last night you’re mine and I’ll do whatever I need to in order to make sure you’re safe and you agreed to let me.”

I nod, knowing where this is going, but hating that he has a damn point.

His forehead presses against mine. “This is one of those times, Kelsey, that I’m begging you to trust me.” The tone of his words hits me square in the chest.

I know what he’s really asking. Do I trust him enough with all of me? I know the answer to that without even blinking. With all the shit we’ve been through the one thing he’s always done without fail is protect me.

I nod. “Okay.”

All tension leaves his body at that one word and I sink against him knowing somehow he’ll make everything right or die trying.
