Maddox is the brother who was never talked about, always hiding in Angelo’s shadow. The forgotten brother.

Many of the articles mention him—the one who avoids the spotlight and works in the shadows.

The same goes for “The King’s Princess”— their youngest sibling. My family has only ever heard of them, never met them in person.

But Maddox had been living under our roof for a week now, and not once did he mention his family. Not once did he connect himself to his brother.

“The night is full of surprises, isn’t it?” My mother forced a laugh.

To say I felt humiliated and mocked would be an understatement. It was beyond that.

That dinner had already turned into a disaster.

And Maddox King? He seemed to be enjoying every second of it.

CHAPTER7

ALLYN

“We’ve arrived.”

I nodded at Angelo, my eyes fixed on the massive mansion behind the gates.

I always knew The Kings were rich, but I never imagined they were this filthy rich.I also never imagined moving in with my husband-to-be so soon, but I guess my mother had plans of her own—plans she never bothered to share with me.

A man dressed in all black opened the door. Angelo stepped out first, extending his hand to me.

“Miss Delgado.”

The same man greeted me, his face as expressionless as ever, eyes cold and dead. He nodded in my direction.

Why are all the people connected to this family so emotionless, and built like assassins? Is that some kind of “requirement” if you want to work for them?

I stole a quick glance at Maddox, stepping out of the front seat of the car, adjusting his suit. He nodded to the guards before walking away.

I should’ve known from the start that Maddox was part of this family. It was written all over his damn face, but I just chose to ignore the signs.

And my mind would never let me forget that night of humiliation when I was drunk, and almost tried to kiss him.

Then Angelo’s arrival only made things worse.

I thought he was just visiting for dinner, not planning on taking me to this massive house the very next day.

But this morning, my mother burst into my room, telling me to pack my things and that I was leaving with Angelo for Scarlet Vale.

I didn’t even have time to say goodbye to Tamara or the shelter. I had to leave everything behind—everything I loved, everything that made me happy.

We walked in silence toward the entrance of the massive castle when Angelo turned to me.

“You’ll have a personal assistant. If you need anything, she’ll be at your disposal.”

“How long are we staying here?”

I had to quicken my pace to catch up with him. My steps were shorter compared to his.

“I have work that needs urgent attention.” He glanced down at me. “We’ll stay here for a little while. It’s my family’s residence.”

As I said, it’s more like a freaking castle.
