Maybe a normal person would feel bad— doing this to their own flesh and blood.Maybe a normal person would feel regret watching their brother lying unconscious on the floor.
But not me.
Not when it came to Allyn.
Not after everything Angelo’s done behind my back.
CHAPTER56
ALLYN
When I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was Lydia King. I’m in an unfamiliar place, lying on an empty bed.
Panic hit me as I looked around, but the grey-painted room didn’t trigger any recognition.Unpleasant memories rushed at me like a hurricane, flooding my mind with everything that happened the last time I was conscious.
Theo Stone had died in front of me, and Maddox had pulled the trigger without a second thought.
He bled out right before my eyes.
Oh. My. God.
This feels like one horrible nightmare I can’t wake up from.
But every time I blinked, hoping for a different reality, I was still here trapped in this room, with Lydia King staring at me like a lunatic.
She was leaning against the wall across from me, knife in one hand, a smile on her lips, watching me with cold, predatory eyes.
“It was about damn time,” she said, twirling the knife around her finger. “I was getting bored.”
How the hell did I end up here? How did Maddox manage to get me out of the mansion without the guards or my father noticing?
He was like a shadow, impossible to catch.
I scanned the room, desperate to find a way out, but Lydia’s dark laugh pulled my attention back to her.
“I know what you’re thinking,” she said with a sigh, her eyes still focused on the knife she was toying with. “You better not.”
I clenched my jaw, realizing just how screwed I was.
My body was still weak, and I was trapped in this room with one of the deadliest assassins, who’d love nothing more than to see me dead.
“Where am I?”
“Somewhere safe,” she muttered, clearly annoyed with her answer. “My brother’s dumb enough to save your damn ass.”
“I should have killed you when I had the chance,” I whispered.
“You should have,” she agreed, sitting in the chair across from me, her grin daring me. “But you’re too weak to do that.”
And damn it, she’s right. She winked at me before leaving, locking the door behind her.
My repeated attempts to break free from this room were in vain. It’s locked down tight, secured enough to keep me here if they want me to rot.
Hours dragged on, but giving up? That’s not in my nature. I’d rather die trying than surrender. My nightmares have become my reality, and once again, my weakness has come back to bite me.
My feelings, too.
My feelings for Maddox King are what got me into this mess in the first place.
