‘I’ll co-sign on that,’ I say, my own heartrate still way too high to expand any further.

We stay lying down, our legs not ready to support our bodies yet.

‘Come in closer for a cuddle,’ I say, wrapping my arms around my boy’s soft body and pulling him in tight.

‘This feels so good,’ Nick says. ‘And I mean, allof this feels good. I’m sorry I listened to what Snoot-butt said.’

‘No, no, it’s perfectly natural to listen to things like that,’ I reply, sensing that my boy needs my support. ‘I hate that he triggered some bad memories for you. But his negativity is his problem, not yours. You can count on me. Not just now, but forever.’

‘I know,’ Nick says, his voice full of love. ‘And you can count on me too, Daddy.’

‘I think a quick shower and a walk along the beach sounds good,’ I say, knowing that if we stay on this couch for too much longerthere’s a good chance we’ll both fall asleep and the evening will vanish.

‘Yay!’ Nick says. ‘But I think you might need to carry me to the bathroom. I don’t think my legs are working yet!’

‘Hmmm, I think your legs are working just fine,’ I reply. ‘But… seeing as it’s you.’

With that, I haul my body off the couch and pick Nick up and cradle him in my arms.

It’s time for a quick shower and then we can catch some evening sun and walk together on the golden sands like the Daddy and happy boy pair we are.

Chapter 11

Nick

I loved what me and Daddy got up to on the couch, and I loved our walk on the beach afterward – talk about getting the best of both worlds!

And as if that wasn’t enough, we’re now back at my place and relaxing in front of the TV.

The only problem is that this movie absolutely sucks – but I don’t mind really, it simply means that me and Daddy can chat together while the terrible CGI squid does its thing on the TV screen.

‘So this new home build really means a lot to you?’ Jason says, looking at me with his brilliantly blue eyes. ‘Tell me more. I want to know everything about you.’

I love it when Jason does this.

I can see that he truly wants to get to know me inside and out.

This isn’t some kind of dating strategy or hustle, Jason has a genuine need to find out more about me and see who I really am.

‘I think after making so much money back in my investment days… I just felt a bit empty inside,’ I say, recalling how I felt toward the end of my time in the city. ‘I mean, don’t get me wrong – the first million-dollar bonus was exciting.’

‘Yeah, I can imagine!’ Jason chuckles, shaking his head in disbelief.

‘I know, I don’t want to come over as ungrateful,’ I say. ‘But the longer I worked in finance, the more I saw that the people around me were just out to progress their own success. No one was a real friend. And that was true when it came to romantic relationships too. I guess… I just started to feel all alone. My apartment was nice, but it didn’t feel like home. It felt more like a super-expensive hotel suite that I happened to own.’

‘I hear you,’ Jason says, planting a soft kiss on my forehead. ‘Life’s about finding your true home. Surrounding yourself with your kind of people. Material things are great, but…’

‘They don’t make you happy,’ I say, pleased to see just how much Jason gets what I’m saying. ‘That’s why this home we’re building… I want it to be the perfect use of my money. It has to be special. It has to be just right for me. And honestly, I’m so glad it’s you who is building it.’

‘And Kyle and Taylor,’ Jason laughs, chuckling to himself.

‘Hehe, and Kyle and Taylor too,’ I giggle. ‘They’re nice guys. Will they find Littles soon? I’ve got single friends they might like…’

‘I think they’re on their own journeys,’ Jason says, rolling his eyes. ‘In other words, they’re still not done slamming shots and staying out all night. But maybe one day soon that might change.’

‘Well, I’m just glad that we found each other,’ I say, blushing slightly as all my feelings of happiness come up to the surface. ‘I think… I think I’m ready to take things to the next level with you.’

‘Okay… I think I might be able to help with that,’ Jason replies, leaning in and kissing me on my lips. ‘But only if you’re sure?’
