“I missed you,” Grant told him.
Caleb smiled. It had only been a few hours but he’d missed Grant too. And he liked that his Daddy didn’t hide his feelings. “I missed you too. I got all my chores done so we can go shopping after lunch like you said.”
“Good boy.” Grant patted his bottom before grasping his shoulder and guiding him to the front door of the deli.
Caleb had never been there but Grant had told him that the place had the best burgers. Caleb had been craving a burger.
“Come on in guys!” An older man behind the counter called out. “Sit anywhere and I’ll bring you menus.”
“Thanks.” Grant gave a wave back.
Caleb skipped over to a booth by the window so he could see outside. They were right in the middle of downtown where all the shops were located and he loved to people watch. Now that he knew that was a thing. People watching. He even made up little stories about them in his head.
Grant held out his hand. “Phone boy.”
“Oh! Sorry.” He passed over his phone and it disappeared into his Daddy’s pocket.
Grant sat across from him with that sexy smirk on his face. “Are you looking forward to shopping?”
“Yes!” By himself shopping was scary and Caleb hated it. That was why he’d ordered everything for delivery. With Grant, the experience was always fun.
“Good. I want to stop at the bakery as well and pick up a dessert to take tomorrow. Avery has a bit of a sweet tooth.”
“Cupcakes!” Caleb exclaimed. “We should take cupcakes.” Cupcakes were so awesome.
Grant nodded. “That’s a good idea.”
Caleb sat back and hummed as the older man walked toward them with two menus.
“Good afternoon guys, what can I get you to drink?”
Caleb lifted his eyes to Grant wondering if he could get away with ordering a soda. He’d never really drank soda but getting out more lately he’d discovered how good the bubbling drink was.
Grant shook his head. “A water and glass of tea please.”
The older man nodded before handing over their menus and stepping away.
“I wanted a soda Daddy,” Caleb pouted.
“I know.” Grant picked up his menu without saying anything else.
Caleb huffed and wanted to stick out his tongue. He peered over his own menu but when he caught Grant watching him back and he slumped his shoulders.
“I know what you were thinking about doing,” Grant told him. “Do it and you’ll be eating a salad for lunch.”
Caleb winced. He set his menu on the table and interlocked his fingers over it before smiling innocently.
“Better,” Grant stated with a grunt.
Wow, that had been close. Caleb really wanted his burger. The movie date where he’d gotten a burger, fries, and milkshake seemed like so long ago.
The man came back to the table and dropped off their drinks. “What can I get you two today?”
“A cheeseburger with no onions and fries for my boy. I’ll take the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and salad with the house dressing please.”
The older man picked up the menus and tapped them against the table. “I’ll have it right out.” He hadn’t even flinched at Grant claiming Caleb as his boy.
“I’m so huuuuuungry,” Caleb drawled out. “Do you think it will take long Daddy.”
