“Sorry.” Caleb ducked his head. He couldn’t even remember what they were talking about. He just knew it was sexy as hell to be just held by Grant’s big hand.
“What did you tell your mom?” Grant repeated.
“I said that I gave her all the money I’d ever give her.”
Grant smiled. “Good boy. What did she say to that?”
“The usual. I’m ungrateful, a loser, no one will ever love me. The stuff she says all the time. Then she threatened to contact the paparazzi and tell them how horrible I am to her.”
“And is any of what she said true?”
“What?”
“All those horrible things she said. Are any of them true?”
“No,” Caleb said. “I did more for her than I should have. She should have been supporting me instead of me supporting her. She took and took until I ran away.”
“Good boy.” Grant stroked him three times.
“Yes,” Caleb hissed.
Grant stopped.
“Daddy!”
“We’re not done.”
Caleb huffed.
“So the phone that was in pieces?”
“I threw the phone against the wall. I had to hang up on my mom when her threats got more colorful.”
Grant stroked him once. “You should have hung up sooner.”
“I know.”
“It’s okay. Daddy will take care of it from now on.”
“You will?”
“Yes, we’ll get you a new phone but when Daddy is home then I’ll answer the phone. If Daddy isn’t here then you don’t answer. Except for me.”
That… that sounded wonderful. “Please.”
“Good.” That earned him three strokes. Caleb was starting to like this game.
“No more throwing things though.”
Caleb nodded. “I know. I’ve never had such an extreme reaction to her before.
“You let what she said put doubts in your head about us.”
“I did. I’m sorry but I did.”
Stroke.
“That’s okay. You’ll know from now on that Daddy isn’t going anywhere that what she says doesn’t matter.”
