Mitch squeaked.

“What do you do, Byron?” Grant asked, the cop in him never far from the surface. And if the interest that Jace was picking up on was as obvious to Grant as it was to him, that would be just one of many questions that night. The club might go above and beyond to protect its patrons’ privacy, but it didn’t mean that the Doms weren’t a bunch of gossiping grannies sometimes.

Byron grinned. “I’m a professor at the university.”

Jace had just taken a drink and choked. Oh fuck, he knew who the guy was. Byron turned to him and patted his back. “You okay?”

Jace shook his head. “Human sexuality?”

“Uh, yeah,” Byron answered with a frown. “How’d you know that? Because I would know if you were in my class.” Byron chuckled but was watching Jace with curiosity.

Mitch began to giggle. He knew because Jace had shared what Avery was studying this semester and they had talked about how much a class like that would have helped them when they’d been in college.

“What?” Grant appeared as confused as Byron and Finn.

“It really is a small world,” Mitch declared.

Byron chuckled and nodded. “Let me take a guess. You have someone close to you in my class.” His eyes sparkled with mirth. “Your boy, maybe?”

It was Jace’s turn to be surprised. “Uh, yeah.”

Byron nodded. “I suspect he’s not here tonight, then?”

“Working,” Jace supplied. “How’d you know?”

“I caught your young man zoning out at the end of class yesterday,” Byron answered.

Jace frowned. Avery enjoyed his class. Sure he was tired, but that didn’t mean he should be losing concentration in class.

Byron held up his hands. “He paid attention to the lecture, so don’t get on to him. I waited until everyone had left and approached him. I got him to open up a little.”

“Avery talked to you?” Jace couldn’t believe that.

“Well, more he stammered about, then blurted out questions,” Byron said.

Okay, that sounded like his boy.

“He was nervous, so I tried to help him out. He admitted to having a Daddy and when I asked if he was a little, he nodded. He spoke about how good you were to him.”

That made Jace’s heart fill with pride. If Avery was able to open up to anyone, even a little, then his boy was accepting their relationship even better than Jace had thought.

Jace smiled. “I’m glad. I won’t ask what you spoke about. If he wants to tell me, he will. But thank you for being there to talk to him.”

Byron’s features softened. “It’s not easy being new to the lifestyle, but I’ve seen your boy transform in the last few weeks. It’s obvious what you’re doing is working.”

Maybe it was worth coming out to the club tonight.

“Thanks, man,” Jace said. Mitch gulped down his water and Jace had an idea. “So, do you have a partner we’ll be meeting?”

Byron let his gaze move to Mitch, who had tensed up. “No, currently single.”

“But looking?” Grant pushed. He’d picked up on Jace’s game.

Byron smirked. “You never know when the perfect boy will show up out of nowhere.” He never looked away from Mitch as he spoke.

Mitch picked up his glass, the ice clinking before he set it back down. It seemed like he didn’t know what to do with his hands.

Oh, this was going to be fun to watch.
