“Yep.”

“Oh.”

I grin. I think it’s the first time Vi’s been at a loss for words. Over the last week, I’ve opened up to Violet more than I have to anyone else, and she’s been nothing but compassionate and understanding. This is just another way to open up to her and let her in. It’s time. “Yeah,oh.” I raise an eyebrow.

“Okay.” She nods and smiles at Jas, tucking her hair behind her ear. “We can go.”

Jas bounces in her seat. “Yay!”

VIOLET

Okay,shit!

I’m meeting his mom.

Don’t freak out.

I don’t know how I’m going to look his mother in the eye after everything we got up to this weekend but this is a huge step with Shane and there’s no way I would turn down this opportunity. I’ve known him just over two years, but in the last week, I’ve learned more about him than in all the time before that.

“Jas, can you play quietly while I get changed to visit with Shane’s mommy?” I ask her as I tie a ribbon in her hair.

“Is it okay if I watch some TV?”

“Sure. I won’t be long.”

I run the brush through her hair one last time and she heads downstairs to watch TV so I can close myself in my bedroom and go into panic mode. What the hell should I wear?

Now I know how Cass felt when we shared our first Thanksgiving with Toby’s family, not that today’s a celebration or anything, but it’s still an important moment. I have no cluehow much time Shane spends with his family but I want to make a good first impression.

Opening my closet, I look through my clothes but nothing feels appropriate for a meet the mom of the guy I’ve fallen in love with moment.

Quinn will know.

Grabbing my phone, I press her name.

“Hey, girl. Please tell me you’ve banged that hot hunk of man you have living with you.”

A chuckle escapes me. Trust Quinn. “A girl doesn’t kiss and tell.”

“Oh my God, you have! Now I don’t need specifics, but was he worth the wait?”

I exhale a long breath. She knows I’d never give details but I can answer this. “So worth it, Quinny.”

She squeals and I have to drag the phone away from my ear. “I hope you’re happy over there living your best life while I live vicariously through my books,” she says light-heartedly.

“I’m actually panicking a little because he’s taking us to meet his mom this afternoon, and I have no idea what to wear.”

“Oooo, meeting the folks. That’s serious stuff.”

I blow out a long breath. “I know and I want to make the best impression.”

“You know I’d never lie to you, right?” Her tone has lost all humor.

“Yeah.” That’s what makes her the best friend a girl could ever have.

“It doesn’t matter what you wear because once they meet you, they’re going to know you’re the best person for their son.” My heart grows with her kind words. “But let’s swap to video so I can see what you have.”
