I hope my grin reassures him. “It was close to perfect.”

His eyebrows draw down and I can tell he’s running through what we just did to work out why I didn’t say it was ‘perfect’. “I think we should practice some more. Don’t you?” I wink as I pull away. I walk him backward toward the door, pushing him through to the bedroom. “I need to pee. Then I’ll make you a fresh cup of coffee.”

Closing the door, I do what I need to do, then wash my hands. Studying myself in the mirror, I smile at the beard rash across my boobs and the hickey he left on the crook of my neck. Evidence of our lovemaking, our passion. I feel like a teenage girl who’s just made out with my high school crush—I feel giddy.

I love it.

This feeling of excitement over a boy—not a boy, a man.

My man!

“I thought you may have been further along after having the weekend without the kids,” Dad comments as I show him the renovation I’ve been working on since he left on Friday.

I probably would have been further along if I could keep my dick out of Emma’s pussy. But it is what it is. I’m surprised we got anything done. I shrug. “Some things took longer than I anticipated.”Not a lie.

Dad nods in understanding. “I guess so. When do you think you’ll be finished?”

“The sale onEm’splace closes in two weeks. I’ll be ready.” We move through to the kids’zone. “The boys’ bedrooms are ready for them, with the shared bathroom. Kenny will move into my old room, which Em finished decorating for her this morning. Our bathroom’s finished, so Ionlyneed to finish off our bedroom and finalize the study.” We decided to give the boys their own bedrooms because as they growolder, they’ll each need their own space.

“It all looks fabulous.” He gives me a fatherly pat on the back followed by a squeeze to my shoulder. “I’m proud of you, Theo. Proud that you made amends with a woman who is perfect for you. Proud of the way you stepped up with Kenny and the boys.” He waves his arm around the room. “Proud of everything you’ve done here to make a beautiful home for your family.” His eyes look glassy as he fills my soul with his praise.

Teenage me preens like a peacock at finally feeling like I have my father’s approval. “Thanks, Dad. That means a lot to me.”

Little footsteps come boundingup the stairs. “Daddy!” I catch Kenny easily as she leaps for me. “I missed you.” She kisses the tip of my nose followed by each of my cheeks.

“I missed you too, Munchkin.” I tickle her until she squirms with laughter. “Did you see your new room’s all finished?”

Emma, Lachlan, Austin, and her parents breach thetop of the stairs. Moving toward my family, I kiss the top of each boy’s head, then hug Sally and shake John’s hand. “Did you guys have a great weekend?”

“Oh, it was wonderful. We love having the boys so much. Maybe one weekend, Kenny might like to join us?” Sally looks across to Dad. “Though I know she enjoys time with herPappoús.” She’s highly maternal. She always seems so happy to be with her family. A lot like Mom.

I look at Dad, shrugging. “She would probably like that.” He nods, tucking his hands in his pockets.

Kenny’s smile is huge as she moves in to hug Sally. “Yeah, that would be heaps of fun. I could jump on the trampoline and play with Archie.”

Em takes each of her son’s hands. “I wasaboutto show the kids their rooms. Shall we all do the tour?”

“Yeah!” They each call out.

The eight of us headdown the hallwaytoward the boys’ rooms first. Dad and I stand inside the doorway as the others explore every nook and cranny of their rooms. Even though the boys have got their own rooms now, Em decided to keep them looking the same as their shared bedroom at her place. Everything works well and the colors were selected based on what Austin and Lachlan like. I figure she knows them best, so I followed her lead. I’ve got an electrician coming out during the week to install ceiling fans in each of the kid’s rooms. Lachlan, in particular, needs it to help him sleep.

Austin’s eyes are wide as he takes in the bathroom which has doors opening into each of their rooms. “Is this bathroom ours?”

I move into the room, leaning against the bathroom doorway. “Yep, for you boys to share. Yougottakeep it tidy though.” Emma looks at me, raising a perfect eyebrow as she tilts her head.

“Okay, Theo. We promise to keep it tidy.” Lachlan answers on Austin’s behalf.

Next is Kenny’s room.

“This room’s so big!” She runs in, squealing in delight. We bought more of the flower garden wallpaper and kept everything within the same color palette for her. We figured she loved it so much, we may as well stay with a winning combination. Em even set up a cozy reading nook for her in the corner.

She races into the bathroom which will be solely hers. “I can’t believe I get a whole bathroom to myself.”

I wasn’t sure it was a good idea, but Em assures me the boys and I will be thankful that she has her own bathroom as she gets older.

Wrapping my arm around Emma, I pull her into my body, kissing the top of her head. “I was thinking we could start moving some of your stuff across next weekend.”
