“Well damn. Blondie actually said something useful this time.” Elise slapped the table with her palm. Beetee pulled out the chair next to her and sat down. Leah and Garrett bounded down the stairs turning the corner, giving us a small wave before they entered the room.
“I heard you all had an eventful time at Leviathan,” Garrett said, crossing his arms over his chest.
I laughed a little. “Uh, yeah, it was eye opening.”
“And the son who owns it now, he’s exactly what I presume he would be?” The male Enchanter inquired.
Dani side eyed me and leaned back on her hands. I cleared my throat. “I think he was probably everything you assumed he’d to be.”
Leah’s long dark brown hair was parted down the middle and placed in two braids on the sides of her head. She tucked some stray pieces behind her ear. “Are you any closer to figuring out your next move?”
“Well, that’s up to Dani, now isn’t it,” Reese said, drumming his fingers along the edge of the table. She stuck her tongue in her cheek, clearly annoyed with him.
Beetee rapped her knuckles on the table loudly to get our attention. We all turned to look at her and her cheeks seemed to redden with all the eyes on her. “What Dimitri said to you about the freedom of choice, that does have some merit. She knows this place has a hold on you and every time you fight and draw blood; she is wrapping herself around your soul little by little. What was that line he said to you again?”
Dani sighed, wrapping her fingers around mine. “She couldn’t force me to do something when I was allowed the choice, so she’s going to give me no choice.” But what the fuck does that really mean.” She sounded like she was trying to play off her worries. I saw the little lines form on her forehead from thought and concern.
Leah walked over to Dani, placing a hand on her knee. “It means that in the end you will choose her at least from where she stands, that’s how she sees things.”
“But that’s not going to happen,” I blurted out.
Dani gave me a small smile. “I mean I don’t plan on it.”
“It is a possibility,” Beetee whispered, trying to remain as quiet as possible with her opinion.
“And here I thought you were all sunshine and rainbow reptiles.” Reese wagged his finger at her.
Garrett rubbed his hands together before clasping them together tightly. “I do think you need to decide on when to infiltrate. I do remember a few doorways to her castle, but we would need to discuss timing and strategy.”
“I’m honestly with the big man over here. We go all in, maybe an ambush is just what she needs. I know what we said before, but this is fucking ridiculous. Dimitri did say that Lilith saw you as a weapon and still does, well then be the kind of weaponyouwant to be and let’s fuck her up.” Elise had this murderous look of intrigue in her eyes.
I had to be the voice of reason in this. “Won’t being closer in proximity make their connection even stronger? Fuck with her even more. The woman already wants to pull her deeper in a dark hole, I just don’t want to make it worse.”
Leah hummed in thought. “This is true, but everyone in this room has taken a risk of some sort one way or another. And waiting longer could also have harsh consequences.”
“You’re asking her to risk her fucking mind for the sake of an instant kill, a fucking sneak attack,” I argued, getting up from my chair.
“It’s not like we’re asking her to go alone, Nick. We also risked shit to be right here in Purgatory. I’m not going to continue to fight distractions and misdirections,” Reese spat back.
Garrett let out a long sigh. “It’s all our fight, but it is mainly yours, Soul Seether. Lilith is the reason everything happened near our home that day. I want to play a part in her demise.”
Dani sat and listened to us talk around her, but she didn’t say anything. She simply nodded and took it all in. She swallowed and removed her hand from mine, running it through her curls. “I want her demise as well, but I want to know my risk is worth it, so that’s why I want to know what Lilith speaks to Dimitri about.”
“Are you sure you don’t just want to spend time with him again?” Reese insinuated.
“Reese, shut up.” I gave him a pointed look and he shrugged rolling his eyes.
Dani gave him her middle finger. “No, I would prefer not to, but he wants me to come back and speak with him about it. He wants to let me in on what she has to say, so maybe it will help, maybe it won’t, but it’ll be information we didn’t have. Then I’ll decide how we move.”
Leah looked at Garrett who placed his hand on her lower back. The male Enchanter looked at Dani with his golden eyes. “We won’t wait forever for you to decide but we can give you that. As much as you don’t want to right now, Lilith will make a choice for you if you don’t.”
“Same goes for me,” Elise announced, getting a slap on the back of herhead from Beetee. “What?I want to see that bitch bleed. Or Dani can take care of Lilith and I can have oh so much fun with Isabel. Fun that will last hours and hours and my ears will be filled with her pretty little screams.”
“There is something severely wrong with you,” Reese acknowledged, raising one of his blonde eyebrows.
I shook my head and focused on Dani. “So, when are we leaving tomorrow?”
She jumped off the table and patted my chest. “I’m leaving pretty late. You are staying here.”
