She nodded. “Cover more ground and all that. You know what he looks like now, so if you find him, then you find me.”

“Yeah, that makes sense...”

“The faster we find him, the faster we can get out of here, which I know is what you want.”

I rubbed the back of my neck. “Dani, I never said that. I just don’t like the idea of you—,” I stopped myself, rethinking my words. “I know you can handle yourself, but with Dimitri, I would just rather that we, together—”

She placed her hand on my chest, her shoulders shaking from her laughter. There was this heat in my chest from seeing her smile, regardless of how it ended up on her face. She tucked a curl behind her ear as she collected herself, grazing her hand up my chest and looking up at me. “Are you worried about what will happen if I’m alone with Dimitri?” She batted her eyelashes at me.

“No, we talked about this. I just don’t trust the guy.”

She bit her lower lip. “Well don’t you trustme?”

I let out a shaky breath because fuck she was so close. “Of course, I do.” We’d had sex a handful of times now, but every single time with Dani was so different. And it was odd to me that this setting, this club didn’t turn me off. If I was being honest, watching demons grind on each other, every single one of them being so sexually aware and free living in this space might havehad my head reeling. I wanted her a lot nowadays but, in this very charged vicinity, I wanted her every single time she spoke, took a breath, fuck, every time she blinked.

“If I knew any better, I’d say you sound jealous.” She pulled back from me and leaned sideways over the bar. Ian was back and giving her his full attention; likely because she pulled her arms in towards her chest, pushing her breasts up. “Can I get two shots of tequila, please and thank you.” She winked at him and then gave me her eyes again.

I looked up to the ceiling. “Dani, I told you I’m not jealous. I’m pretty sure I made that really fucking clear.” Ian slid the shots over to us and Dani grabbed them, licking her lips. She handed me mine, while staring at my mouth. “Hmm, that you did. Therein lies the question, why are you acting like this now?”

I took the shot from her, tapping my index finger on the glass. “I know you don’t need me to defend you and you aren’t a damsel in distress, that isn’t the issue. The issue is him…”

She paused as she brought the shot to her lips. “Him, what?”

I blew out a breath, severely annoyed. I ignored her question and tipped the shot back, feeling it burn down my throat, but I welcomed it. She watched as I placed the shot glass on the bar and tapped my fingers on the glass countertop. “You told me you didn’t want a bodyguard, so everything that wants to come out of my mouth is going to sound like I’m trying to protect you. I’m not jealous, just wary, that's all.”

“That’s cute. What I meant was you have to act like what you’re protecting isn’t worth your focus because there was never a doubt in your mind that it could be anything else but yours.” Her eyes pierced into mine as she tipped back her own shot, swiping at the corners of her mouth with her tongue. She gently placed her glass next to mine and pressed into me. I instinctively gripped her waist as she grabbed onto my biceps and pushed herself up so she could graze her lips against the shell of my ear. “I’m pretty sure you’ve gotten me addicted to your cock, so fucking around with Dimitri really doesn’t benefit me, now does it. You should really bet on yourself more.” She pulled back slightly; her face was close enough so that her breath was mingling with my own.

Her eyes were shadowed in the kind of heated lust I’d learned to quickly recognize, but they were also full of determination, as if she wanted me to understand and believe her. I bent down and kissed her then, tasting the alcohol on her lips. She moaned into my mouth, bringing her hands up to my shoulders as I turned her so that her body was pressed against the bar. She chuckled against my mouth, pushing me back a bit.

“They have rooms here if you want to just go get one already.” A golden skinned woman seated on one of the barstools said, rolling her eyes.

I ran a hand through my hair and backed up, giving Dani some room. She stayed against the bar, just examining me. I looked around and noticed a few people glancing our way, but not in the way that told me they were uncomfortable but like they could have watched us fuck if that’s how we wanted this to play out. I rolled my shoulders considering the fact that I wouldn’t have minded if someone watched. What in the actual fuck?

“If you want to split up, then fine, but I would prefer we go together,” I said calmly, raising my voice over the music.

Her eyes trailed me from my feet all the way to the top of my head. She cocked her head to the side, squinting at me. After a beat, she shook her head. Her mass of curls bouncing and swaying back and forth. She pushed away from the bar, grabbing my shirt. “We can go together, but not yet. Dimitri always stays until the club shuts down, so we have time. First, I need you to regain that fucking confidence.”

“Excuse me?” I questioned, blinking down at her stunned.

A smile played on her lips. She tugged at the material of my shirt, causing me to lean down so I could hear her better. “You heard that girl, there are rooms here, so might as well use one. I want that confident angel with the impressive tongue back.” She tilted her face and licked my cheek before moving past me and making her way towards the stairs, various demons making a path for her. I gaped at the space where she once stood, then looked over my shoulder, watching her walk away.

“You should probably follow her,” Ian suggested, smirking before clearing our shot glasses from the bar. I internally groaned before racing towards where she went just to find her halfway up the stairs. She snuck a glance over her shoulder and smirked knowing I was following her.

Once we got to the top of the stairs, I pushed past a few people and was able to grab her hand, turning her around to face me. The music was still loud up here but this part of the club didn’t have as much bass playing throughout it and the vibration from the music was toned down. The smell of amber and vanilla filled my nostrils. There were so many doors up here with no signs to tell you what was behind any of them. A few demons passed by me that looked disheveled but very, very happy. I remembered Rae mentioning something about taking me and Reese upstairs for fun and now I was finally understanding what she meant. When you listened closely enough, you could hear laughs and moans that were loud enough to fill you in on what was happening behind closed doors. “Dani, you can’t be serious.”

“I’ve never been more serious.”

“You are doing this because you assume I don’t have confidence in myself?”

She moved out of the way for a couple to walk by so lost in each other’s personal space that I didn’t even think they realized we were standing there. “If the wing fits, huh.”

I looked around trying to find any reason to tell her no. “As inviting as this is, we don’t have time for…sex.” I honestly couldn’t believe I was saying that, seeing as that was mostly what we’d been doing for the past few days.

She wagged her finger at me. “Oh, there is always time for sex. Pretty sure it’s called a quickie.”

“Dani, no.” I pressed my mouth into a hard line, crossing my arms over my chest in a way to prove my stance. Her facial expression never changed, but she seemed to somehow look even more mischievous. She looked towards a few of the doors lining the hallway.

Dani shrugged and looked down at her feet, nonchalantly. “Dimitri was super fond of quickies. He always felt the need to show me whenever hereallywanted me.”
