“That’s difficult when you wanted me to tell you that I was yours.”

He tensed a little, but not the type of tense where he was ashamed of his words, but more like he was nervous. “Hmph.”

“Was that just for the moment?” I had to ask the question that ran throughmy head the minute he had wanted me to say it. “I mean it was really fucking hot, but you had to know that I was going to ask.”

He was creating circles on my skin with his fingertips. “Can I be honest?”

I nodded.

“I don’t know actually. I don’t think so.”

I let out a huff and pushed up on my elbow, letting my hair cascade to one side as I looked at him. He had one of his arms bent behind his head and the other was starting to trace lines along my back. “What are we doing?”

“What do you mean?”

I rolled my eyes, annoyed. “Nick, I’m used to playing around and not caring when it comes to demons, but you are different, I’ll admit that. You clearly don’t like the idea of me being with anyone else...,” He started to interrupt but I placed my finger to his lips. “And I don’t like the idea ofyoubeing with anyone else, in fact, it makes me kind of murderous. I’m not jealous, but I just don’t like seeing it, alright. Those girls can fuck right off.” He laughed at this.

“I’m not asking you to define anything right now, but at some point, you’re going to have to, and I’ll follow your lead. I’m smart enough to know that all of us are under too much pressure for you to have a clear head about this but for now can you just tell me if it was for the moment? Like if this is all pointless and just for fun.”

He narrowed his eyes at me, tilting his head a little to get a good look at my face. He moved his hand from my back and caught a piece of hair in his fingers, slipping it behind my ear. “It wasn’t for the moment. I liked hearing you say that you were mine.” He propped himself up and brought my face to his, kissing me slowly. “It’s fun, but it’s not pointless, I promise. I don’t think I could do anything without there being a point. Especially not with you.”

“You called me a little demon, when we both know I have angel powers somewhere in here.” I laughed, running my hand down my body.

“I don’t care what you have secretly inside of you, you will always be an annoying demon to me.” He kissed me again, dragging his lips to my jaw and scattering kisses down my neck causing me to land on his chest in a fit of giggles. “Dani?” His voice was tentative all of a sudden.

My body and mind felt tired, but the kind of tired where I knew I would end up well rested when I woke up. I wrapped one of my legs around his and snuggled closer to him. “Mhmm?”

He cleared his throat as I felt myself drifting a bit. “I do feel things towards you and those are things I can’t really put into words yet. I don’t want you to think I’m putting anything off or purposely not deciding, I just don’t really understand my feelings, but I will. I guess I just don’t know whatwanting you to be mine means exactly…not yet. But that’s what I want.” He said this last part like a whisper as if it was just for me and no one else.

I smiled against his chest as I felt sleep takeover. His heart was hammering, so I said one last thing before I let sleep claim me, feeling his fingers start to create spirals with my curls. “When you do figure it out, I better be the first to know.”

NICK

Ihadn’t realized I’d gone to sleep, but when I opened my eyes, she was nuzzled into my chest, softly breathing. I’d gently slipped out from underneath her to head to the bathroom. I was a bit shocked at the fact that I’d seemingly slept without waking up in a cold sweat. That was new to me seeing as I’d oddly gotten used to the attacks for quite some time. I would sleep in bed with her forever if it meant no more haunting visuals. That didn’t mean that there weren’t looming thoughts flailing around in my subconscious. I remembered feeling something curl around my mind while I slept, like a silken snake trying to push its way in, but it was different than the time with Natalia. It felt like there was this weird battle of light and dark fumbling around in my chest and as much as I assumed light would win in my favor, the dark was looming, but it wasn’t violently trying to drag me with it. It was forming itself around another darkness, one that was much bigger than it, much more familiar with this overall place we were in.

I shook my head as I turned on the faucet and slapped water on my face, patting it dry with a hand towel. I had this weird connection with the girlsleeping soundly in the other room, but what did that really mean? What did that mean when this was all said and done? I wasn’t a fan of the unknown, whatever that may be, but I would try my best to keep it together and figure things out. And I would try my fucking hardest to make sure the Dimitri’s of the world never got to touch her skin.

I slowly opened the bathroom, seeing that Dani was no longer sleeping, she was propped up on her knees with her head tilted. The room was dark except for the dim light coming from the bathroom. I shot out some of my light to create another light source once I cut off the bathroom light. She still had her dress on from the night before and the hem rode up her thighs as she readjusted her knees on the comforter.

“My little night light,” she mumbled more to herself than to me as she looked at the glowing orb to her left. I sighed, content. I would happily be her night light whenever she needed me.

“I thought you were asleep?” I asked, my voice a little huskier than I would have liked.

She bit her bottom lip, scanning my body from head to toe. I realized I was just in my boxer briefs and t-shirt, but I was never shy about my body, so I just stood there, letting her watch me. Her voice was slow and flirtatious when she spoke, “well, I’m not anymore.”

I took a deep breath and steadily walked towards the bed, maintaining eye contact with her. “Did I wake you up?”

She shook her head. “No, I felt around, and you weren’t there. Are you okay?”

I nodded, feeling myself wanting to tell her about my sleepless nights and vertigo inducing nightmares. “I’m fine.”

“Are you tired?” she asked, tilting her head to the other side, her hair following suit.

I ran my hand along my stomach. “Not really.”

“Good.” I had to catch my breath when she reached behind her to unzip the back of her dress, sliding her arms through the sleeves before pulling it over her head completely. She was naked in front of me without an ounce of shame on her face. And fuck, she was beautiful. All she did was let out a small giggle. I could see from where I stood that her nipples were peaked, and her breathing was starting to pick up a small pace with anticipation.

She was near the end of the bed, so I stopped right when I was in front of her and leaned down, planting my hands on either side of her legs. My face was level with hers as I skated my nose over hers. “What would you like to do, needy one?”
