“Maybe you can find a nice demon to distract you and make her feel just as lethal as you,” he said sarcastically, turning his head to look back at where Dani was.

“You know I don’t do that.”

“Uh, maybe you should.”

I furrowed my brows in confusion, holding my drink to my lips. I turned my head and my whole body went rigid. They were no longer side by side, but Dani had swung her leg over his body and was now settled on his lap. He had his hands on her waist, and I could see the tiniest flex of his fingers as he squeezed. Her dress had ridden up to show more of her thighs and I had never wanted to be another man in my entire life, but I had also never felt so fucking livid in all of my existence.

I felt my fingers tighten around my drink glass and I could almost hear the glass starting to whine under my grip. My hand was empty when I blinked, realizing that Reese had taken my drink from me. He gently placed it on the bar and ran a hand through his hair. “Are you really, reallysure you want a demon girlfriend?”

I ignored him as I zeroed in on Dani and Dimitri. A demon female was next to me at the bar, and I knew she wanted my attention, but I didn’t payher any mind. I wasn’t in the mood, and I never would be. I watched as Dimitri ran his hand through her hair and slid his fingers down her arms. My heart thundered in my chest at the amount of possessiveness I felt. That claim I wanted to have on her started to creep its way back up. She was independent and confident, and I appreciated those things about her. That fire she had was something I never wanted her to lose. I had told her I wanted her to be herself fully, despite whatever path she chose, and I would be there.

She could be independent and also know she was mine. Dimitri could try all he wanted and likely reminisce about their time together—which made me want to vomit just thinking about it, but that didn’t change what I already knew about me and her. She had said that she wasn’t jealous of Rae or anyone else because she knew she had me. She had been right.

It was time I helped her understand that I had her too.

Dimitri watched me as I made my way over to him, that same cocky smirk on his face that I knew all too well. That smirk had been something I’d seen many nights while I rolled around with him in his bed. Those thoughts and his face didn’t give me the same feeling of lust and desire as they used to. It’s not like I wanted them to, but still it was weird not automatically having that familiar sensation. He had two females next to him, and others were scattered along the other couches probably waiting their turn to breath his fucking air. Dimitri was a demon’s wet dream. He had looks, charm and power. Power that anyone would love a piece of even if that meant being a pretty thing on his arm that sucked his dick occasionally.

I had never been one of those. I never fawned over him and gave him attention just because he was seeking it. I gave him my time because he had actually listened to me when I spoke, he’d treated me with respect. Respect I rightfully deserved. Once we were seen together, females stopped flocking to him, afraid that I would drag my dagger through their chest ifthey spoke to him. I wouldn’t have since I never wanted to lay any claim to him; it was just nice having someone of equal stature in my corner or my bed, whichever worked.

I watched as he looked at my dress, drinking me in with his bright green eyes that turned up at the corners. His hair had a wet look and was slicked back a little, but small pieces fell over his forehead. His skin was pale but smooth, not an inch of imperfection to be seen. The top two buttons of his shirt were undone and the tattoos that adorned his chest peeked out. The girls next to him eyed me curiously, their eyes realizing who I was, and I could see the way they shifted in their seats not knowing what to do.

“Dimitri,” I smiled at him, wanting to seem pleasant enough.

“You are quite the sight, aren’t you?” He responded, always speaking like he was smirking.

“I’ve been busy.”

He looked me up and down, licking his lips. “You sure have. I’ve heard enough talk, sneaky thing you.” His deep voice was smooth and unbothered.

“Rumors, I’m sure.”

He wagged his finger at me. “You and I both know we don’t do rumors here. It’s so boring and you are anything but boring, Soul Seether.”

I narrowed my eyes, pushing my tongue behind my front teeth. I placed my hands on my hips. “I need to speak to you.”

He had his arms stretched out on the back of the couch, the girls next to him cuddled close. “Is that not what we’re doing?”

I rolled my eyes. He said even the simplest things with a charm ridden tongue. “Without bystanders.”

He smiled at me. “Wanting all of my attention I see.”

I crossed my arms over my chest, waiting. He let out a breath and unhooked his arm from around either girl. He leaned into each of them one at a time and whispered something. The one at his right kissed his cheek and walked off somewhere, while the other one sat in place. She pouted at him. “Ugh, I never get to spend time with you.”

I let out a laugh and sauntered over to where she sat. My eyes focused on her, and she drew back a bit at my proximity. “I assure you, you’re pretty enough for him to come seek you out, so for now stop whining and get the fuck up.” Her mouth popped open, clearly offended. She looked towards Dimitri for comfort I was guessing, but he just looked at me and snickered. I moved back so that she could remove herself from the sitting area, walking away with a sour expression on her face.

“I missed your feisty side.” He patted the spot next to him.

I smirked. “I bet.” I sat down, making myself comfortable.

“You don’t want to introduce me to your friends?” Dimitri asked, nodding over towards where the others were.

I laughed. “Why, so you can charm them with your incredible wit?”

“I recall that you used to highly enjoy my incredible wit.” He squinted at me, tilting his head a bit to the side. He moved his hand that was closest to me and placed it on my knee. His skin was warm against mine, his thumb moving in massaging circles.
