Elise snorted. “You can’t tell me you weren’t the least bit tempted to go into the bathroom with the guy that propositioned you.”
Ian handed Reese a drink, which he happily took. “Hey, I will give credit where it’s due. If you're a good looking male or female, I’ll admit it, but I don’t want my love story to start with,we met in a demon club.”
I tapped my fingers on the glass bar, anxiously. I was still thinking about what Elise said. I turned to her, but it looked like she was already waiting for me to open my mouth. “What did you mean by ‘it’s better if she does it alone?’”
“I meant exactly what I said.”
I rolled my eyes to the ceiling. “You know what I meant.” I looked over to where Dani now stood in front of where the man sat. She had her hands on her hips and was looking down at him. I couldn’t see her face nor his so I couldn’t determine how the conversation was going.
Elise leaned her back against the bar, propping her elbows up behind her. “Dimitri would rather talk to her, that's all.”
“At the hostel you made it seem like you both knew…Dimitri.”
Elise pressed her teeth into her bottom lip and peered up at me, narrowing her eyes as if she was attempting to proceed with caution with her next words. “Well, Nicholas, let's just say I don’t know Dimitri as well as your precious Dani does.”
“What are you talking—”
Reese cut me off by coughing, slamming down his drink and placing a hand on his chest. When he could catch his breath, he stared at Elise. “Oh shit, are you saying that they fucked?”
My eyes widened and I could feel the back of my ears heating up along with my neck. Elise leaned past me and grabbed Reese’s drink, tilting it to her lips and drinking whatever was left in one gulp. “Use your imagination boys.”
“So, what she plans to charm him into telling her things?” I asked, my annoyance boiling.
“Perhaps, I mean Dimitri has a grossly lustful affinity for Dani. He likes pretty, powerful things. He’s had a thing for her ever since we walked into this place forever ago. He got one look at her and boom, she was being summoned right to that very spot he’s at now. You can do things like thatwhen you’re the owner,” Elise explained, pushing her bangs off her face.
“The owner?”
“Of the club. Dimitri got it handed down to him by his dad. A dad who resides in Hell, hangs out with Lucifer, blah blah blah.” She spoke like she was bored. I, on the other hand, was fuming. Elise patted my cheek. “Ah, Nicholas. Your jealousy is showing.”
I looked over at Dani again, who was now seated next to Dimitri. They were so close that their legs touched. He had his hand on her knee, his thumb running circles along her skin. He was an attractive enough guy, with tattoos up his neck and on his hands. He looked in our direction as if he knew we were talking about him, but then he looked back at Dani, leaning in as if he was telling her a secret. She laughed and that smile I adored so much made an appearance. I wanted to punch that guy in the fucking face.
“I’m not jealous,” I said through gritted teeth.
“Oook, just keep telling yourself that. She knows what she’s doing, so just let her do her thing. I’m pretty sure she still wants your dick, so just calm yourself.” Elise let out a loud sigh as a dark-skinned female with a completely shaved head passed by. Elise followed her with her eyes and pushed away from the bar. “Well, I’m going to go entertain myself with a snack.” She trailed after the female, catching up to her and casually hooking her arm with hers.
“Are you good?” Reese inquired, mild concern in his voice.
“I kind of have to be,” I admitted, feeling a tap on my shoulder. I turned my head to see Ian sliding a drink my way.
“Figured you could use it.”
I nodded and thanked him, while Reese reached around me and plucked his empty glass from where Elise had been. “Give me another too, since the little psycho put her mouth all over this, please.”
Ian chuckled and started making his drink. Reese blew out a breath and nudged my shoulder with his own. “You keep staring and it’s going to make it worse.”
“I’m not staring.”
“Nick, you have to play nonchalant alright. Don’t act like it bothers you even if it does.”
“I’m cool. I’m completely unbothered.” Fuck, I didn’t even believe myself. I wasn’t jealous, I just didn’t like his hands on her, especially now knowing their history.
Reese clucked his tongue, looking down as two demons walked past him giving him a look that I knew for a fact wasn’t just friendly. When they were gone, he looked relieved and I kind of felt bad for leaving him at the bar withElise while I went and danced with Dani. “You aren’t her boyfriend, Nick, so you can’t really say much. Just look away and try not to get your virtue stolen by demons in heat.”
“You’re making way too much sense right now and that’s really odd coming from you.” The corner of my mouth lifted slightly as I reached for my drink.
Reese took his newly made drink from Ian and tipped it back, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed. “Yeah, I don’t know, this place is fucking weird and I, one hundred percent, would not recommend, but for now just let her talk to the guy. You’re overthinking the fuck out of this; I can literally hear all the wheels turning in that anxiety ridden brain of yours.”
All the desire I’d felt for her on that dance floor was still there, but now it was in competition with my feeling of wanting to win her over. She had forgiven me, and I could say we were in a good enough place but right now that wasn’t enough. Dimitri had been with her and now thought he had some claim to feel her skin and be close enough to kiss her. It took everything in me not to go over there and break up whatever the fuck kind of conversation they were having. I oddly wanted to lay a claim on her, and I knew I had no right, but I had a feeling she wanted that too. I took a sip of my drink and tried to focus on my best friend, refocusing my mind until we could get back to the hostel.
