They moved on quickly.
Reese craned his head back, taking in the entire scene in front of him. He opened his mouth a little and then closed it. His blonde hair was tied up into a low bun and he had his bow held tightly in his hand. Reese craned his neck around to look at his best friend on the other side of the room, who was still eyeing me like if I gave him the okay, he would close the distance between us and kiss me. “Why do I feel like I have clothes on, but they are just picturing me naked?”
“We wouldn’t mind that,” Eva said, giggling, her sharp teeth on display. I saw Reese inwardly cringe, likely at the idea of having his dick anywhere near that. I appreciated the forwardness, especially since it was no longer directed towards a certain angel.
“It stinks of desperation in here. Don’t make me vomit.” Elise snuck around Beetee and grabbed a muffin for herself. “And he’d rather kill either of you than fuck you, so please get lost.” Her eyes glowed with a fiery red color as she stared them both down until they looked away with snarky glares.
“Fine.” Rae said, adjusting her short skirt. “But you should come see us at the club one night. Have some fun.” She winked over at Nicholas, who pressed his lips together and showed no interest in the slightest. I could have strangled her.
“Club?” Nicholas and Reese both asked at the same time.
“Oh yes, the club. You should come. You would be thesweetesttreat.” Eva batted her eyelashes and snapped her teeth at him, grabbing her friend’s hand as they made their way out of the hostel.
I had a feeling I knew exactly what club they were referring to. They would most definitely be the sweetest treats in that place. Not that I would ever think of taking them there…maybe.
“Wow, Nicholas, you just can’t stop yourself from attracting demons.” Elise stuck her tongue out at him. He ran a hand through his hair trying his best not to make eye contact with her.
Reese placed his bow on the breakfast bar and pointed to the door. “What the hell was that about?”
“It was someone showing interest in you. I know it must be a shock, since that never happens, right?” Elise licked her fingers, cleaning off the remaining remnants of the muffin she scarfed down.
Reese gave her both his middle fingers. “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then shut the fuck up.”
“You know I hope you get lost here one night and those girls find you and bite your dick off.”
“Oh my god! Ellie!” Beetee exclaimed, pressing her hand over her mouth.
I couldn’t help but chuckle. Elise was laughing too and when we both noticed we were laughing at the same time, we stopped. Her gray eyes narrowed at me before she looked away. That joke was something we would have both laughed about for hours if circumstances were different.
“Fuck you, alright,” Reese replied, rolling his eyes. He focused on Nicholas next, who was massaging the back of his neck with his hand. “You alright? I found you sleeping on the bathroom floor last night when I had to take a leak. Had to get your ass back into bed, even though you were a little out of it.”
I pinched my eyebrows together in confusion. The bathroom floor?
Nicholas stopped messing with his neck as if he was frozen in place. “I didn’t…umm…feel good, so you know…” He shrugged as if that was enough of an answer.
Reese scratched the side of his chin where small bits of stubble were starting to appear. “So, you decided to sleep on the bathroom floor? Why didn’t you come get me?”
I could literally taste how uncomfortable Nicholas was. The instant his mood went from nonchalant to instant anxiety. “I didn’t want to bother you. I mean it came and went and I don’t know, I must have just passed out from exhaustion. I don’t really remember. I got back to bed, that's all that matters.” He started staring at the floor as if it was the most interesting thing in the room. Something was going on with him that I couldn’t help but want to figure out. He reached up and started to massage his neck again.
“You were literally covered in sweat, Nick. Maybe we should just sit out on whatever we are doing today and let you rest…”
“No. I’m fine. Blake said I was good. Just leave it alright.” It looked like Reese wanted to say more, but the look that Nicholas was giving him told him to just do what his best friend was asking. Reese scrubbed a hand down his face and sighed. “So, what’s on the agenda for today, reptile queen.”
Beetee snorted. “That’s a terrible name for starters. But Soul Seether—ugh, Dani— you asked about Enchanters which brings me to our travels today.”
“Beetee, please don’t tell me we’re going to…” Elise started, taking a long inhale through her nose.
“Shush, just behave and you’ll be fine,” Beetee said, clearly understanding Elise’s apprehension while the rest of us were in the dark. “We are going to see some friends of mine. The path there is a little bit hidden. They used to be pretty close with Lilith and well, I’ll let them tell their own story. Finding demons willing to spill their Lilith secrets is easy, Enchanters not so much, especially the ones that turned against her.”
“Like Elisefriendsor legit friends?” I asked.
Elise snarled. “What the fuck is that supposed to mean?”
“Oh, you know, just like friends we can trust. Actualfriends. But forgive me if you don’t know what that means.” I gave her a noncommittal shrug as if there was nothing more for her to say.
Reese clapped his hands together. “Well, I am up for anything that makes the little sour psycho demon over there uncomfortable. When do we leave?”
Beetee laughed that high pitch laugh of hers and began to answer him, but I was more interested in someone else at the moment. I got up from my stool and walked over to Nicholas who was still rubbing the pads of hisfingers into his neck.
