I wouldn’t have been totally opposed to cuddling in bed with her some more though. Maybe do something that would release all the tension from both of us. Once that was done, perhaps I could convince her to let me say what I wanted to say last night. The three words that had been sitting on my heart. I turned over, extending my arm out hoping to feel her skin, but all I felt were cold sheets. I patted around her side a few more times as if she would magically appear. I shot up from the bed, my heart racing a little.

“Dani?” I said to no one. She wasn’t in the bathroom, and I just didn’t think she would just abandon me in this room without saying something. “Dani?” She would have given me any indication of where she was going. I ran a hand through my hair, pulling at the strands. I hustled to put my clothes on, feeling a sense of panic creep up my spine. I swung open the door and darted into the hallway, clearly not looking where I was going and ran straight into Leah and Garrett’s children. They stumbled back a bit but looked to be just fine.

I bent down, matching their eye level as best I could. “Have you guys seen Dani?”

They both looked at each other and shook their heads at me. Yuri tilted his head to the side, his dark silky curls flopping over. “Is she okay?” He seemed genuinely curious given the fact that she did almost kill him days ago. That glamour Leah used on him must be made of the toughest magic because he didn’t even flinch when I spoke about her.

“I’m not sure,” I answered honestly.

“Nick?” I heard Reese say behind me. I straightened and turned to face him. His expression was slightly confused as he looked from me to the kids. “You good?”

I scratched the back of my head. “Um, have you seen Dani?”

“No, I assumed she would be with you.”

“Yeah, I woke up and she wasn’t there.”

Reese moved to the side as the kids ran past him. “Why don’t we go downstairs. I’m pretty sure she didn’t go far.” He nodded towards the stairs, and I followed him, my shoulders tense from how on edge I was. We bothlooked around the first floor, no sign of her anywhere.

“She wouldn’t just up and leave without telling you where she was going, right? Without telling any of us.” I nodded absentmindedly, not really knowing the answer to that. I wasn’t so sure anymore.

“Hey, now, slow down,” Leah scolded, pointing a finger at her children as she walked around the countertop in the small kitchen. “What’s wrong?”

I looked over her shoulder as if all this panic would have been a mistake and Dani would come waltzing around the corner. “It’s Dani, she’s gone.”

“Gone?”

“Yeah, you haven’t seen her, have you?”

Leah shook her head, her dark waves set in a messy bun on top of her head. “Garrett, honey.”

Garrett, who was on the couch in the lounge area, jumped up and came over to us. One of his dark eyebrows was raised in question. Leah licked her lips and cautiously looked at both of us before opening her mouth again. “Have you seen Dani?”

Garrett sucked in a breath as if what she said triggered something in him. I narrowed my eyes at him, waiting for his response when the front door opened. We all turned simultaneously to see Elise strolling in as if everything was fine. She was picking at her black polish covered nails before she noticed us staring at her.

“The fuck are you guys looking at?”

There was a silence among us that clearly irritated her when she rolled her eyes. She waved her hands around. “Beetee is getting Axel settled and helping her parents. Interesting people, I mean I’ve met them before but there was always something off about them.” She looked around us, searching for something, or someone. “Where’s Dani?”

“We were wondering the same thing,” Reese said, nudging me.

“I woke up this morning and she was gone.”

Elise’s eyes expanded, the gray of her irises more prominent now. “What the fuck do you mean gone?”

I shrugged. “Like no one knows where she is.”

Elise pressed her fingers to her forehead and started to rub it. “Did she say anything to you last night? You know before you went to sleep, but obviously after all the fucking you did.”

I ignored her statement. “She had a nightmare last night, involving Lilith and all of us. It actually really bothered her; I’d never seen her that distraught. She kept talking about how she didn’t want to cause any more of a mess. I kept trying to reassure her and I don’t know, she seemed okay when she went to sleep.”

Elise raised a hand up to my face. “Wait, she told you that she had a nightmare about Lilith? Like Lilith was in it and talking to her?”

I nodded slowly. She ran her hand over her mouth and let out a laugh of utter disbelief. “Fuck. She really got in her head. Like quite literally fucking got in her head.” Before I could answer, she was coming towards me with her finger pointed at my chest. I had enough height on her, but she was intimidatingly unnerving when she had that crazed look in her eye. I started to back up right as her finger touched my shirt. “You knew Lilith had really gotten to her and didn’t think to come and alert one of us of it.”

“Alert you? Lilith has gotten into her head before.”

Elise scoffed. “That’s different. Lilith in her head to bother her, annoy her is one thing. Lilith in her actual dreams, making her see things, force her hand, that’s another. That’s cause for getting everyone out of bed and addressing it.” She dug her finger into my skin. “And what did you do, huh? You tried to comfort her with your angelic voice and life altering cock and thought you fixed the problem.” Her voice was louder now and much more demanding. There was a small hint of concern in her features, but I wasn’t about to point that out now.
