Elise smacked her lips. " I'll personally make sure those shit faces working with her get my fist up their asses. Later." Elise moved past Isabel and started down the hall.
I sighed and let Isabel's hand drop. She tucked both her hands into her pockets as she watched Elise stroll down the hallway. "She's a firecracker, isn't she? Quite confident."
"Yeah, well, for this situation, the more confidence the better, right?"
She placed a lock of her golden blonde hair behind her ear. Her stark blue eyes crinkled up so that her whole face was smiling. "You'd be right."
We said our goodbyes and I jogged down the hall to catch up with Elise. Healers carrying crates of bottles with various liquids and powders stopped to look at her while others just moved out of the way as she passed.
"You could have been nicer" I said when I fell into step next to her.
"That's asking too much."
The man from earlier caught my eye and gave me a quick wave. Elise caught the gesture and snickered. "He's cute. If things don't work out with Dani, maybe he's your type."
"I think his type is Reese."
Elise snuck a glance back over to the Enchanter, eyeing him up and down before saying, "yeah, Blondie doesn't have a chance with him."
I laughed and pushed open the doors to the outside. "Yeah, and he doesn't have a chance with Natalia either."
Elise stopped short on the first step on the porch, while I trotted down all of them to the grassy ground. "Excuse me?"
The sun was at its highest point now and I had to shield my eyes from it as I looked at her. "Natalia is very much into the ladies."
"I'm never wrong about these things,” she confirmed.
"You just met her girlfriend."
Elise bounded down the stairs, right as another scowl crept up to her facial features. "That woman is her girlfriend?"
We started down the path, the smell of water and cedar filling my nose. "Yeah."
"Hmph."
"What's that sound for?"
"Nothing. I don't like her."
I scoffed. "Do you like anybody?"
"Fair point. You do know how I feel about blondes."
We hustled further down the path and caught sight of Natalia, her wavy dark hair blowing in the slight breeze. The glitter on her shoulders and cheeks sparkled as she turned to us. The wreckage from earlier was gone, aside from the mangled tree trunks. As Natalia gave us a small smile, I noticed Dani behind her. She was directly in front of the sunlight, and it illuminated her skin. I had to mentally slap myself when I considered reaching out to run my hand down her arm and feel how soft her skin was. I wanted to put my face in her hair and breathe in that cinnamon scent. I wanted my face so obnoxiously close to hers that the only thing left for her to do was to kiss me. I wanted Dani, that was a fact; my cock started to strain in my jeans just by fucking looking at her. She gave me a tight-lipped smile as we approached. I had made her believe her not making a choice was it for me. Maybe it wasn't. Iwantedher. I realized that when I looked at her the morning after our adventurous night. I wasn't thinking about her being a demon when those thoughts crossed my mind; I was just simply thinking about her just as she was, without all the extra. I needed us to fix this so I could at least have a small fraction of time to articulate my thoughts and feelings.
Dani slid her eyes slowly to Elise and started to open her frustratingly perfect mouth, but I held my hand up. "No more fighting, bickering, nothing." I looked at Elise, whose eyes were transfixed on Dani. "There is some shit you both need to talk about, but just believe me when I say you arebothon the same team here."
"I'll believe it when she tells me the whole truth." Dani flicked her mass of curls over her shoulder.
Elise let out a sigh and looked at the ground. This was as vulnerable as she was going to get for now.
"Now we're a team?" I turned my head to see Reese come from the woods. He pushed a tree branch out of his way, ducking underneath it. His bow bounced on his back.
I placed my hands in my jacket pockets. "Yes, we are. Listen, about what I said or well, didn't say. It wasn't meant to intentionally leave you out or I don't know, make you feel like I didn't care."
Reese pulled his eyebrows in. He placed both his hands on his hips. "Nick, I don't think anyone thinks you do this shit intentionally."
"I'm sorry I kept you out of the loop."
