I lean back in my chair and roll my eyes. “Yeah, brother. I’m afraid I do.”

“Whatever. The doctor said they had to report this to law enforcement, right?”

I nod. “Yeah. So?”

“So? So, Chet and Cody went to high school together.”

I stare at Gabe blankly. “Reading a crime story in your spare time or something? Think you’ll be the one to solve the case? Idiot. And anyway, who’s Cody?”

Gabe scoffs. “Uh…Cody Henderson. The county sheriff. Now who’s the idiot?”

I respond in the only appropriate manner I can think of given where we are and all that’s going on. I kick him in the shin with the heel of my boot.

Asshole.

“Real mature little brother.” Gabe shifts out of my personal space and rubs at his leg as he continues spinning over the doctor’s words.
