“No, thanks. I’m good. They had some lemon water inside the changing rooms.”

“All right, then. Ready to go?”

I nodded.

The woman behind the reception desk stepped out.

“We are very happy to have you as guests. Did something happen to make you cut your stay short?”

I glanced at the clock. We still had half an hour left. I was at a loss for what to say.

Nick cleared his throat. “It was perfect. We just needed to leave earlier.”

“Okay.” The woman still looked at us suspiciously as we bid her goodbye.

Nick and I didn’t speak as we walked out of the spa. Once we were on the street, he turned to me. “Allison, how are you feeling?”

I chanced a glanced up at him. Just like that, my entire body was vibrating with excitement.

“A bit confused,” I whispered. There went my plan to pretend nothing happened.

Nick tilted his head. “Then let’s have drinks and talk it out until there’s no confusion left.”

I instinctively knew it wasn’t a good idea. I was still too susceptible to him.

“I can’t tonight.”

“No problem. We’re seeing each other tomorrow anyway.” His eyes were glinting.

Oh God, I’d forgotten. He was right, of course. Which meant I had less than twenty-four hours to figure things out.

Chapter Seventeen

Allison

The next evening, I was just as confused as the night before. Nick was picking me up. The last time he’d come to the house, I’d already been on edge, but this was something else entirely. I kept telling myself that nothing happened. We hadn’t even kissed last night. But I’d wanted to—so damn badly that my body was still shaking when I remembered how much I’d craved his mouth on mine.

But Nick and I were both adults. We could work this out.

I waited for him out by the street, and he arrived just in time. I grinned as the car approached, and when he stopped in front of me, I immediately jumped in.

He frowned. “I was going to come and open the door for you.”

“There’s no need. But thank you.”

“You think it’s a good idea to go inside and say goodbye to the twins?”

“Oh no, don’t. It’s actually the reason I’ve been waiting out here in the first place. If they see you, they might not let us go at all.”

I was relieved that some of the ease between us had returned. That the sexual tension wasn’t as thick. Maybe there was a chance we could forget what had happened in the steam room.

“Soon enough they won’t have to.”

I felt his words like a warm hug.

“So, are you going to tell me what we’re doing, or is it a surprise?”

He grinned. “I’m cooking for you.”
