I tried to come closer but she aimed the gun at me and stopped me in my tracks.

“Who do you trust the most?” she asked me, before she swiftly turned the gun back, aiming on her temple before she blew her brains out over the side of the wall. We couldn’t react, it had been too quick.

What secrets did she take to her grave that we needed to know?

Shit.

“Lor,” Conor turned to me, his face white with fear. “If he’s in Italy, he knows the girls are there.”

“There’s no way anyone could know that.”

“Only your oldest friend who somehow knew everything was happening before we did.”

My greatest fear was being realised as I saw what he was saying and propelled myself out of the office and toward the car.

Bridget

“Whatcha got there?” I heard the thick Italian accent before I saw him. I smiled over at Saverio, who had come into the library silently it seemed.

“Just reading,” I said. “It keeps the bad thoughts away until I can see Lorcan again.”

I couldn’t read the expression on his face, but it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. My trust issues were starting to impede on my everyday life and it really annoyed me.

“You’re not with Lorcan?” I asked him, putting the book down. A picture fell out of the book, and I bent to pick it up only to be taken aback by the beautiful woman in the picture. Saverio came over to me and looked down at the picture.

“Ah, Clem.”

“You know her?”

“Yes,” he said, sitting down next to me. “She was Lorcan’s first love.”

I looked at his expression, and for some reason, I got a vibe that it was more than that. He was tracing his fingers over her face as if he loved her too.

“How long have you two been friends?” I asked him, putting the photo back away.

“Too long,” he chuckled, but there was something sinister about the way he was looking at me. My spidey sense was tingling and not in a good way. “It seems as if we met yesterday but in the same sense, it seems as if we have shared everything.”

He put his hand on my knee and I immediately felt the breath catch in my throat.

“She didn’t love, did she?”

His fingers dug into my knee, causing a pain to shoot down my leg, before he removed his hand. “No, she only had eyes for Lorcan.”

“That’s why you’re so angry with him. Because of her?”

“He loved her and he let her go, and she died. He’ll never get over that. He’ll never be able to move on from the memory of her.”

I had feared that myself, and it still played on my emotions, even now. To hear it from someone who has known him for years, it only increased my fear.

“Why are you here telling me this?”

“To save you, of course.”

“I’m beyond saving.”

“I could save you,” he said, standing and putting his hand on my jaw, lifting my gaze to meet his. “I could love you like he never could. You’ve been to my home, the beauty there is said to rival everywhere else. It could be your home.”

The revulsion was rising in my throat as he looked at me like I would be his wife. I couldn’t think of anyone but Lorcan, whether or not he loved me back, I knew I loved him and no one else should be touching me this way. I pulled away from his grasp and moved toward the door. Saverio was on my heels as I started to run, only to run directly into a large chest. I backed up to see the familiar bearded man I knew to be Ace. He had his gun pointed at Saverio who had stopped in his tracks and had his arms up.
