“Don’t fucking move,” she yelled. “You did this to me. All I wanted was to love you.”

“Keeva, put the gun down,” I urged her. “There are cameras all over, you’ll be shot on sight if you continue. Please.”

“I loved you,” she said, her voice breaking with emotion. The pang in my side wasn’t what I would have expected from a gunshot, but the loud bang that accompanied it told it that’s what it was. I fell to my knees from the impact as I heard a shot ring out from behind me and Keeva went down instantly, her head rolled to the side to show me a shot in the forehead. I looked down at my hand that had gone to the wound and saw blood.

A lot of blood.

Everything was clouding my mind as I felt the first splatter of rain falling on me. I looked up at the sky as the rain began to fall, and my body grew weak. I heard a flurry of people running around, and then a high-pitched scream. Bridget’s face moved into view, blocking the rain, tears running down her face as she cradled me in her arms.

God, she was beautiful. How had I not seen just how beautiful she was before?

“No, no, no,” she said over and over again. “Stay here, you stay with me.”

She screamed out to the others to get help before she put her hand on my wound and pushed. “You were right, babe,” I said, feeling the cold creep over me. “The clouds are so relaxing.”

I looked over as the dark clouds began to form around us, but I could see them moving and the beautiful dance they performed while my life seemed to peter away was mesmerising.

“No, you stay with me,” she screamed, but her voice seemed so far away as the clouds started to turn to darkness.

Chapter Thirteen

Bridget

Istoodattheend of the bed with a tray full of food and an orange juice for him, and the bed was empty.

For fuck’s sake. It had been three weeks since he’d been shot and almost died, if not for Jye’s quick work with getting him to the hospital. He was probably down in the war room, like he was most nights.

Fuck this man was going to be the end of me.

I put the tray of food down and walked back downstairs, heading for the war room. There were men walking everywhere throughout the house, some bloodied from fighting with people in the streets. Galway was a fucking mess right now.

As I opened the door, I stood with my hands on my hips and looked over at that man I loved. Yes, I loved that motherfucker.

“What are you doing? The doctor hasn’t cleared you yet.”

“That guy doesn’t know my body like I do.”

“Lorcan, get your sorry ass back to bed before I have your brothers carry you up there like a little bitch.”

I heard a snicker from the side of the room and looked over to see Jye standing there with a few papers in his hands.

“Or, better yet. Jye, why don’t you go and carry him up fireman style?”

Jye’s smile dropped and he looked over at Lorcan, in what I could only think to call fear.

“Don’t even fucking think about it,” Lorcan said to him. Jye nodded and left the room.

“That man saved your life,” I said. “You could show him a little more gratitude.”

“Bri, that man knows I love him like a brother.”

“Speaking of your brothers…I haven’t seen them skulking around for a few days.”

Lorcan shrugged. “They’re looking for Ronan. We had some intel that he was in Dublin.”

“They left you here?”

“I’m not alone, babe. I have way too many people traipsing through my house as it is.”
