I nodded and left him there with his address and his entire life ahead of him. That was all I could offer, and now I knew about the secret child Gideon hid, it was time to face the woman who held all of his secrets.

Sonora had a lot to answer for and whether she was ready to tell me or not, wasn’t an option.

My phone dinged and I looked at it from my hospital bed. It was Pierce.

P: Hendrix spotted in NSW. I’ll find out more.

Shit. The meeting was meant to be tonight, if he came here for that, things were about to get messy for everyone.

I pulled myself up and grabbed my clothes. My arm was still in a sling and was incredibly sore but I pulled it free and groaned as I tried to flex my arm. Stitches were probably bursting free with each movement but Presley needed me. I needed to explain everything. Hopefully those files helped her but there was still so much she didn’t know about me.

“Hey!” A nurse came in, trying to push me back down on the bed.

“I’m sorry about this,” I said to her before I elbowed her in the head, and she fell onto the bed. I quickly changed into my jeans and shirt before I left the hospital, and hailed a cab. I gave him the address and waited to arrive at the chateau.

It was unusually quiet there so I ran to her room, but there was no one there. That was when I heard someone in the kitchen. Running down the stairs, I burst into the kitchen to find York standing there with a plate of food.

“I wondered when I’d be seeing you,” he said to me. I’d only ever seen him in photos, but I knew he wasn’t one to mess with. “Sit.”

I did as requested. He slid a plate of food in front of me. “Uh…thank you?”

“Eat, you need your strength.”

I picked up the fork with my good arm and began to eat. The food was delicious, better than I’d had in a long time.

“She told me a lot about you,” he said, suddenly. I stopped eating. “She thought you were dead.”

“Is that what she was told?”

“No, but she was made to believe it.”

“You tortured her and she trusts you, I don’t get that.”

“We did, at first, to help Gideon but soon I saw a much stronger woman than I was promised. Then I started asking her things, ordinary things, but also bigger things. I found out the shit Gideon had had done to her, and I wanted to rip him apart. No girl should go through that. That was when I spoke to Jett and Ebony. A plan was formed to strengthen her for anything. She wanted the torture, we didn’t care, it was what she wanted.”

“I don’t get that.”

“Maybe you should have a round with us and find out what it’s about.”

“I’ll pass, thanks.”

“Suit yourself,” he said. “But you do need to listen to me, because soon we have to leave and she will be alone if you don’t get her trust back.”

“Okay.”

“I think you have done admirably, but she didn’t like finding out about your connection to Hendrix.”

“I get that part,” I said, lifting my sore shoulder.

“Be relentless,” he told me. “She needs someone like you on her side.”

I nodded and finished the meal, pushing the empty plate back to him. “That was good.”

“You better get ready for tonight. It’s going to be explosive.”

If the past was anything to go by, I had no question about it. I called Pierce and told him to meet me at the chateau. It was time to put Presley on top, where she belonged.
