Aubrey nodded. “You know I can be discreet.”
She turned back to me, cocking her head to the side regarding me. “How can I know he won’t do something stupid?”
“You don’t know anything about me.”
“I know who you were raised by, boy.”
“And he took my goddamn girlfriend from me to hurt me.”
“Ebony is your girl?” she asked.
“Yes.”
“Interesting.”
Ronni looked away again obviously considering her options, but her dismissal after asking if Ebony was my girl had me on edge. What the hell did that mean?
“What aren’t you telling me?”
“John always liked Ebony… always. I think he’d want to hurt you, yes, but there must be a bigger motive there.”
“What did he do to her?” I asked her.
“I don’t think he was too severe with her, she acted out, and he lost interest from memory. He moved on to some other woman, but then he disappeared, and I thought we were all safe.”
Aubrey was angry, and I could see his lips forming a fine white line. I knew how that felt. The fact I knew my father had a history with Ebony was hard, but knowing he had her and was intending on doing bad things to her, made me even worse.
“Where is this damn boat?” I grit out, ready to fly there if need be.
She got up from her seat and wrote something down on a little notepad. I motioned for York to call in the boys. This was going to turn into a mission. Before she handed the note to us, she hesitated.
“Maybe I should get my girls to accompany you? Fuck knows John is a bad shit when he’s about to lose something.”
I snatched the note from her hand and read the navigational coordinates. “We’ll be fine. I have enough men to look after it.”
“What would Ebony say to you dissing my help to rescue her just because my team consists of women?”
She’d fucking hate it, tearing me a new one while she was at it. Fuck!
“Fine! But they can’t get in my way. My men won’t stop to check if someone is on their side, got it?”
Ronni smiled. “You’ve got spunk. I like that, boy. What did my brother name you again?”
“I’m Jett… self-made man, you can call me that.”
“Jett Black?” she asked, smirking. “Well, I’ve heard of that name. Even out here my girls hate you.”
“I’m sure the feeling is mutual.”
I turned to leave noting the way her laughter sank inside of her, reminding me of a memory I had buried deep. Not now, I urged myself to leave it alone. Now I needed to get Ebony back and take care of John once and for all.
EBONY
Thwack!
Pain ripped through me as the lash slapped across my already sore back. That was the fourth time he’d whipped me since coming into the room. I bit my lip to stop myself from crying out, he’d loved it when he saw the pain I was feeling. He’d marked me, and I knew this little exercise would scar me.
“That sounded like it hurt,” John said. “Did it?”
