“Why?”
“It’s time. Now, enough about work. Why don’t we head back to your apartment?”
Her hand snaked out across the table toward mine. If I moved it away, I’d give Nic the ammo she needed, so I allowed her cold fingers to slide over mine causing a creepy sensation to run down my arm.
“It’s been a while, I’ve missed you.”
“Things have changed,” I found myself saying. Nic had always been a jealous woman before Ebony was on my radar, back when I didn’t care about any woman in my life. I could only imagine how she would react if she knew how I felt about Eb. Back in the day, Nic could use my body for her pleasure whenever she wanted, but now I was Ebony’s as much as she was mine, and I was fucking happy about that.
The mere thought of Ebony upset about Nic’s and my past had me up in arms. I didn’t want her to know the things I let this woman do to me, especially not how much of a hold she had over me. To Ebony, I was a big bad wolf, but with Nic, I’d always been the little biter dog at her ankles. Ebony could never see me so weak.
“What changed?”
“I did,” I replied. “You can check out the business, but as for me, I’m off the table.”
“We could be under this one right now.” Her foot made its way up my leg and toward my crotch. I quickly stood up backing away from her.
“I’ll see you at the office tomorrow, Nic.”
I left the restaurant without looking back as quickly as I could and headed home. Ebony was waiting. I couldn’t wait to be buried deep in her to make me forget the shit storm that had just landed on my doorstep.
EBONY
I turned over expecting to feel the warmth of Jett’s chest. Instead, his side was cold and empty. Confused, I got up, putting on my silk teddy and began to head downstairs. I stopped halfway when I heard voices—one was Jett, but the other wasfemale. My heart sped up as I listened to the conversation.
“—you know you miss me.”
I already hated this woman. Why would Jett have a woman over late at night, and why would he miss her? My gut was beginning to churn, and I was feeling a cold pressure across my chest. We’d never discussed exes before, never had to, but of course, he would have one or two. He was fucking hot.
“Nic, I told you already—”
“Jett, I own you. Whoever has you so soft, doesn’t matter. She can be eradicated with a snap of my fingers. Remember that you'll always be mine.”
Anger built inside of me, but I needed to hear more. I needed Jett to kill this bitch for thinking she could have him and for threatening my life. He never would stand for someone threatening me. What did she have over him? It wasn’t something I wanted to hear, but I knew I had to.
“Nic… get out.”
“No.”
She was so confident, and Jett didn’t shoot her. No one spoke to Jett that way, not even me. As I watched her circle Jett like a shark circles its prey, something pushed me up from the seat I had taken on the stairs and ran into our bedroom looking frantically for something, anything that I could use against this woman. Who the hell did this bitch think she was? Jett was mine. I tried to reason with myself—he’d told her to get out, and she had refused. I just couldn’t get my head around the fact he was letting her talk back to him. Where was the Jett I knew?
Well, if he wasn’t going to do it, then I fucking would. I grabbed the knife from my nightstand and walked down the stairs watching with pure anger as this bitch shoved Jett down onto the couch and straddled his lap, her dress riding up over her ass cheeks.
“Nic… I told you…”
Why wasn’t he pushing her away? Why hadn’t he fucking killed her? Rage had me plotting where to strike first.
“Hush, Jett. Thisisgoing to happen even if I have to force you.”
I saw red. Did she just threaten my Jett? The first stab wound happened without my knowledge. It just happened. She arched inward from the blow, and I withdrew the blade, but she didn’t turn around. She slumped forward onto Jett which only angered me further. I continued to stab her in the back, one after the other, after the other. I didn’t look up at Jett, nor did he try to stop me. Blood sprayed all over my arms, body, and in my eyes, making it hard to see. I could see Jett’s face was covered as well, but he didn’t try to block the spray. Instead, he watched me as I stabbed this woman on top of him. I pulled her hair back and allowed her to fall to the floor with a thud.
She tried to reach up to me and grab the knife, blood spitting out of her mouth. It would have been enjoyable to watch her slowly die, but my anger was still so raw. I got down on my knees next to her and continued to stab her in all her vital organs. My vision was blurred, and I knew I was covered in this woman’s blood, but I didn’t care. Actually, my heart was racing with a buzz I didn’t understand.
I finally looked up at Jett from my position on the floor. He was staring down at me with such intensity I could feel it radiating off his body. His breathing was labored, his chest visibly rising and falling, his fists bunched at his sides, but he wasn’t mad.
I think he was turned on.
“Eb…”
