Page 95 of Mine, Forever

“Ronni’s safe.”

“Good, that’s what you wanted, isn’t it?”

“Yeah.”

“So why do you look like you’ve been sucker-punched?”

“Eb…” he said, coming to sit on the corner of the desk, “… I told you to stay with someone. I don’t want you alone.”

I rolled my eyes and sat back in the chair. “You can’t watch my every move for the rest of our lives. John is dead. Who else would come after me?”

“Any one of our rivals,” he said. “So when I say to stay with someone, you fucking do it! Hear me?”

“We are partners. You don’t go around being protected every second of your day.”

“Yes, I do. What the fuck do you think York does?”

I lean forward, looking at the beeping light on the cell. “Okay, then get me a bodyguard, Jett.”

He leaned forward, his hand finding its way around my neck and squeezing slightly. “Just fucking be diligent. If you want a bodyguard, recruit one. Like you said, you’re my partner, fucking act like it.”

He kissed me, pulling me hard and flush against him briefly, before pushing off the table and leaving the office.

I grinned, that man could do the funniest things to me, and I loved it. Picking up the cell, I opened my messages inbox to see Erin’s name pop up.

The message had one line only.

Erin:Aubrey was ratted on by his wife, Adora Caine.”

What a fucking bitch.

Putting my cell in the top drawer under a stack of papers, I ran outside to catch up to Jett. He was just about to start a meeting with the boys.

“Can I have a word?”

“What is it?” he asked, pulling me off to the side.

“I need to find my mother.”

“Why?”

“She had my father imprisoned.”

“And? What do you intend to do about it?”

“What do you think?”

“Eb…” he began, but I pushed out of his arms. “If you won’t tell me, I’ll find out.”

I was about to walk off when he grabbed my elbow again. “She’s in a cell of ours. I’ll take you there later, and you can do what you want.”

I nodded and let him conduct his meeting while I planned out what I was going to do to my mother.

JETT

“Are you sure this is going to work?” Cal, one of the new recruits, asked.

“Yes, just make sure you push the C4 into the places I marked on the map.”
