Page 53 of Mine, Forever

“Listen, you may know about Jett’s past,” I began, pushing up from the floor of the cell. “But I’m his future.”

He stood too, looking me in the eye. If I wanted to, I could poke him in it, but that would do nothing but add to my charges. I needed to get out of here, which meant I had to bide my time and play nice prisoner until I finally got free.

“Cole,” a cop called out from the doorway. “You’re gonna wanna see this.”

“I’m busy.”

“That can wait.”

“What is it?” he growled, turning to look at the cop.

“Got some chick in here wanting to make a complaint.”

“Really? You can’t handle it?”

“I’m heading off, but I know you’ll want this one. She claims to have been attacked by Jett Black.”

I felt my smug expression fall from my face and my stomach tighten at the knowledge Jett had even gone near another woman. He had moved on now that I’d been locked up.

“Well,” Cole said, turning back to me. “Looks like he found another partner and all within twenty-four hours.”

I wanted to scream, but I didn’t. Watching as he closed the door behind him, he left me in the dark once more.

I was okay with that. The dark and I had gone way back—it was the only place I found solace.

Jett had done what he did best, didn’t he? He had broken me and left me. I was going to prison for something I knew in my mind was wrong, and yet I felt no remorse for it. I had loved watching Giordy’s petrified form drop to the ground, his head falling at an unhealthy angle to the side. I’d watched as his eyes lost life, and it had thrilled me.

I wanted to curl up and die in this disgusting cell knowing Jett wouldn’t come for me. He wouldn’t save me from this, but worst of all, he wouldn’t love me, and I would never feel his cock inside me again. That had made me feel incredible as if I could rule everyone if I could control him like that. He’d completely and utterly lost control with me. I knew it had scared him, the look on his face had been the evidence I needed, but for me to completely lose him was going to be enough that I didn’t care what they did to me in prison.

Jesus, what the fuck had Jett done to me in that asylum? Had I completely lost my mind or was this what all-consuming love was meant to feel like? If it was, I wanted nothing to do with it.

???

I was awakened by a loud crash coming from the office. Crawling to the bars, I tried to see if I could view anything going on through the little window in the door. All I could see were limbs punching and men yelling.

Suddenly, the door opened, but I couldn’t see who it was in the dark. I heard the rattle of keys, which were quickly inserted into the lock of the cell and then the bars swung open to reveal my savior.

“Jett,” I said in a whisper. “You came for me.”

“Of course,” he replied, tucking an errant strand of my hair behind my ear and helping me to my feet. “I’ll always come for you.”

I ran into his arms wrapping mine around his neck and feeling him squeeze me back. It was the first display of affection he’d given me which should have startled me, but for some reason, it felt right, as if it was just what we both needed somehow.

“We have to go.”

I took his hand as he led me down the hall and into the office where desks and chairs were overturned, lamps were broken, smashed and scattered over the tiles. Cole was trying to get up from the floor, his face bloodied and bruised.

He looked up at me. “Don’t do it. You’ll just make your sentence worse than it already is. He doesn’t love you. He’s incapable of it.”

I let go of Jett’s hand and walked over to Cole smiling at his bruised form. He looked so weak and pathetic. It was almost as amusing as Giordy pissing himself.

I bent down. “I told you, I’m his partner. I’ll always follow Jett even if it means I die doing so.”

Standing back up, I kicked his crotch causing him to buckle over cupping his balls. Jett let out a loud laugh taking my hand again and leading me to the Lincoln waiting outside. York sped off to the apartment, but we all remained quiet. I could tell Jett had something on his mind, but he hadn’t said a word.

It was only when we got to the apartment I noticed an extra passenger sitting next to York.

Jett got out of the car as did York and the mystery blonde. I didn’t like the way she looked at Jett nor what she was wearing. Wheeling around, I suddenly took her by the throat and slammed her back into the car. Her eyes went wide, and she struggled under my hand.
