Enzo snorts from beside me and burrows his head in Robyn’s hair to hide from his brother’s glare. Of course, he has his wife seated on his lap while my granddaughter naps in the spare room under the watchful eye of Beatrice. I need to give that woman a raise. She’s been a godsend this last week, helping Robyn settle into motherhood while Enzo attempts to focus between the two of them, all while helping us find his brother.
Finn and Kian are working from the dining room table since we figured it was easier for us to all be in one place, rather than try to keep up with each other over the phone.
“Well, if you can’t do that, then what are you trying to do,mia regina?” Luca asks, and Izzy sighs. I’d like to say she’s sighing about that god-awful nickname he has for her, but I know she’s not.
“I’ve been trying to hack into his phone. He’s got it on some sort of private network, so it’s taken me longer than it usually would, but I think I’m almost in.”
“And then we’ll be able to see where he is?”
“Yes, Luca,” Izzy huffs, exasperated. “Then we’ll be able to see where he is.”
I watch as my daughter-in-law’s expression goes from annoyed to serious as she stares at her screen and starts typing, her fingers flying across the keyboard.
I really need to convince her to start working for me full time.
“What is it?” I ask. She holds her finger up in aone minutegesture, though the wait is killing me. I just want to find my son and his girlfriend, hopefully in one piece.
No.
They’ll be fine.
I trained Marco well, and he’s strong. He’ll be fine.
He has to be.
Izzy slowly raises her head, a hard look on her face as she turns to face Finn.
“Care to explain why it appears your uncle is currently on your property?”
Finn’s brows furrow and he approaches her. He shoots her a look, silently asking for permission to take a closer look at her screen, before she nods and moves to the side so he has more room.
His face screws up in confusion before realization takes over his expression.
“Thatmotherfucker.I know exactly where they are. Let’s go.”
Chapter Forty-Five
Marco
Present
Nolan’s eyes don’t leave mine as he drags the knife across my cheek until he brings it to my throat, the sharp edge cutting into my skin, and I tense.
I don’t mind dying, I just don’t want to do it in front of my girl.
“Taking the easy way out, huh? You know you’re no match for me, so you wait until I’m weak and kill me off that way?” I ask, raising my brow as I don’t look away from him. I know I’m riling him up, but the longer I stall, the more time it gives me to try and think of a way out of this for Sloane.
Fuck, who am I kidding?
I’ve been trying to figure a way out for her for the past week, and the only thing I can come up with is trying to wait it out for as long as possible until my family show up. I’m far too weakto take him on right now, and I’m only growing weaker by the minute.
I can see the worry in Sloane’s eyes when she looks at me, and she’s not wrong to be worried. I’m trying to hold on, for her. But I’m not sure how much more my body can take before it finally gives in.
“Okay,” Nolan says, nodding and removes the knife, only to place it against Sloane’s stomach.
Terror like I’ve never felt before rushes through my veins and I finally fucking snap as those images from years ago, when I could see her tied up in her father’s warehouse, rush through my mind.
I use every ounce of energy I have to reach out and grab his wrist, pulling it and the knife away from Sloane before I push it towards him. The knife barely knicks the skin on his chest before he catches up to what’s happening, and he takes control once more.
